Last week we looked at the old Gospel song titled "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around".  The theme of this song can easily be applied to the encouragement by Jesus found in today's Gospel, "Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.' "

Today's Gospel is following along on the world-wide lectionary cycle of Luke (Luke 10:1-9), it wasn't chosen specifically for our U.S. July 4th weekend. Yet profoundly, the message is clear that we need to celebrate our inter-dependence! And we are challenged by Jesus to reach out to others, hands and hearts and minds wide open. Jesus teaches his early disciples--and us--that whatever towns we enter, if whomever we encounter will listen, we need to proclaim "The kingdom of God is at hand for you." Because we are singing:

Ain't gonna let injustice turn me around
Turn me around, turn me around
Ain't gonna let injustice turn me around
I'm gonna keep on a-walkin', keep on a-talkin'
Marchin' up to freedom's land

Ain't gonna let nobody turn me around
Turn me around, turn me around
Ain't gonna let nobody turn me around
I'm gonna keep on a-walkin', keep on a-talkin'
Marchin' up to freedom's land
