HE'E would like to congratulate Carl Ackerman of the PUEO (Partnerships in Unlimited Educational Opportunities) Program for hosting an outstanding PSPP (Private Schools with Public Purpose) Conference, which was held on March 6-8 in Honolulu. HE'E staff was honored to participate in the Panel of Collaboration, Education, and Reform, which highlighted progressive initiatives in the Public School System. Hawaii partners with national nonprofit to engage teachers

Exceptional teacher leaders selected by Hope Street Group will be trained in peer and community engagement, data collection and media strategies -all with the intent of sharing information with the community about the Hawaii Common Core standards. For more information about the program, please click here. The Hope Street Group Hawaii Fellowship application window (for teachers) has opened. Information for application is here. Deadline for fellowship application is May 23, 2014.  

 

Legislative News 

The 2014 Legislative Session ended on May 1. HE'E Coalition was an active participant in a number of key education bill and made a significant contribution to lending the community voice to the process. Thank you to all who participated-- for giving input to HE'E testimony, attending hearings and providing testimony from your organizations or as individuals. We welcome your engagement and look forward to building on this momentum going forward.

 

The list below is a list of bills and resolutions and Governor's Messages which HE'E followed which passed during the session. They included items dealing with the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, Board of Education Appointees, Mandatory Kindergarten, Superintendent's Salary and the State Budget.  Among the HE'E supported bills that did not survive the session included items relating to Instructional Hours, Early Learning System, Family-Child Interaction Programs, School Air Conditioning and After School Programs.
