HE'E on Strive HI Performance System-Letter to the Editor-PLEASE REVIEW

Back in June of this year, Stephanie Shipton from HIDOE's Office of Strategic Reform gave the Coalition an update on the Strive HI Performance System (ESEA Flexibility) and received feedback from members on what families and communities wanted to know about these reform efforts. Recently, HIDOE in partnership with HE'E and The United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) created a 1 pager about the Strive HI Performance System for parents and families. To further support HIDOE's shift to the Strive HI Performance System, a Letter to the Editor in support from HE'E is being proposed. Please see draft letter here. If you have comments, please send to cheri@heecoalition.org by noon Wednesday, September 4, 2013.  We will ask for a vote from voting members shortly thereafter.

Upcoming HE'E Meetings

HE'E Planning Meeting: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 4:00-6:00pm at The Learning Coalition (841 Bishop Street #301, Validated Parking at Ali'i Place, 1099 Alakea Street, map listed here.) Please note that in September, the Planning Meeting will be held on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm. We encourage teachers to join if they are able to!

HE'E is pleased to have a question and answer session with HIDOE staff, Lyndsay Pinkus, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Superintendent, on the Strive HI Performance System, and Stephanie Shipton from the Office of Strategic Reform, on the Common Core.   Please join us for an update on two key reform efforts at HIDOE!  We will also be have an introduction of uMinca, Inc by Christi Tran.  uMinca, Inc., a new social enterprise, is in the early stages of designing a semi-virtual "gaming" platform that seeks to dramatically increase the likelihood that underserved young people can achieve their goals in school and life. uMinca's "gaming" platform would provide young people with tools to help them track their real-life progress, guide them through simulated life scenarios that align with their interests and strengths to help them set goals for their future, and link them to relevant resources, including peer and community support, so that they can be better informed in making decisions to reach their life goals. Members will have a chance to participate in one of uMinca's focus groups at the upcoming HE'E Quarterly Meeting on October 21, 2013.  A draft agenda of the meeting is here. Please RSVP to cheri@heecoalition.org if you can make it!
