We will give an update to members at the Planning Meeting on July 9.
HE'E Satisfaction Survey In March of 2013, we asked members to complete a HE'E Satisfaction Survey. We wanted to disclose the results of the survey. They are listed here. There were 14 members who participated in the survey. One item of interest is the results of question number 7, "What issues are you currently working on would like to work on?" The top three priorities were, "identifying best practices and modes in schools for family-school partnerships," "supporting an early learning system," and "addressing innovating funding for 21st century schools." Our effort to put together a family-school partnership action list was influenced by members' feedback. Please note that the results for question number 4 was not consistent as some members answered with 5 being the highest rating. while others answered with 1 being the highest rating. Mahalo to those who participated! HE'E Member News Conflict Management for Educators Workshop: July 9-13 Kerrie Urosevich, Executive Director of HE'E member Family Hui, is teaching a summer session course at UH called Conflict Management for Educators, beginning July 9th--Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:45-8:30, with a skills building workshop on Saturday, July 13th. There are still spots available! Please see syllabus here. Students will learn how to create and foster respectful classrooms where critical thinking, compassion and complex problem-solving are encouraged and expected. They will learn conflict resolution strategies they can use with students, colleagues and families. And finally, they will learn how to integrate peace building and conflict resolution skills into existing curriculum. For more information please contact Kerrie at urosevic@hawaii.edu. DOE Needing Community Members for End of Course Standards DOE is need of community members and parents for the End-of-Course standard setting scheduled for July 22-24. DOE would appreciate any assistance in reaching out to community and parents to sign up at the following site listed here. The site will be closed on Friday, July 12 at 4:30 p.m. Just a note that if the individual is selected, they will be notified by staff from the American Institutes for Research. Individuals should not attend any of the meetings, if they have not been contacted.
Standard Setting: Participants will recommend to the Department's three performance standards (cut scores) for the online assessments or exams. Standard setting is the means for identifying cut scores that indicate whether a student has achieved an established level of proficiency. It involves expert judgment that is informed by student performance data. The Department intends to identify four levels of student achievement: Well-Below Proficiency, Approaches Proficiency, Meets Proficiency and Exceeds Proficiency.
