Aloha HE'E Members and Participants,
Please join us for HE'E's Special Meeting on 21st Century Schools and Middle School Attendance on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at The Learning Coalition. Please join us for two presentations by distinguished guest speakers. From 9:00-10:00am, we will hear a presentation by Hawaii Institute for Public Affairs (HIPA)'s Alan Oshima and Bill Kaneko and DOE's Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Support Services Ray L'Heureux on their 21st Century Schools Initiative. It is a great opportunity to ask questions about the project and engage in conversation. From 10:00-11:00am, we will have a presentation from guest speakers Deborah Spencer Chun, President and CEO of Adult Friends for Youth, and David Hipp, Executive Director of Office of Youth Services, Department of Human Services, on their Middle School Absenteeism project. The two schools being targeted are Dole Middle and Waianae Intermediate Schools, which have absenteeism rates that are 2-3 times higher than the Oahu average. The project aims to determine the contributing factors to the absenteeism of middle school youths and then to evaluate strategies to alleviate those stressors.
Mahalo to those who have already RSVP'd for the event. If you have not yet registered for this meeting, please click on the link below. Spacing is limited so please RSVP as soon as possible. |
