Thank you for those who attended HE'E's Large Group Meeting on May 2, 2012. A special Mahalo to our presenters, Ivalee Sinclair and Susan Rocco from the Coalition for Children with Special Needs, Elizabeth Sager of the Hawaii State PTSA and Rachel Tanoue, Wai Sam Lao and Danicia Honda from the Hawaii State Student Council.  

  

The Department of Education recently contacted us to ask for feedback to their Strategic Plan. Please go to this link and complete the survey. Your feedback will assist the Hawaii State Board and Department of Education with the update of the current Strategic Plan (2011-2018). Survey period is from May 1-11, 2012.

May 8, 2012 Tuesday, 1:00-3:00pm HE'E Policy and Planning Team Meeting: We will have a combined Planning and Policy Group Meeting on May 8th, Tuesday, from 1-3pm at The Learning Coalition Office, 841 Bishop Street Suite 301 (Validated Parking at Ali'i Place, 1099 Alakea Street). 

 

We will be discussing the following items: 

 

  1. Review of 2012 legislative session, reviewing outcomes of bills HE'E supported
  2. Action and timeline for SCR79.  We will be having a meeting with the Department of Education to discuss next steps on this resolution; therefore, please review and bring suggestions on how to put recommendations into actions. 
  3. HR50 discussion led by Clif Tanabe 
  4. Next steps forward regarding policy advocacy, in particular, with Board of Education 
  5. Questions and areas of focus for upcoming meeting with Stephen Schatz, Assistant Superintendent of Strategic Reform
  6. Input on HE'E Internship Research Project on Family Engagement in Hawaii

 

June 6, 2012 Wednesday, 11:00am-1:00pm A Conversation with Stephen Schatz on RTTT and the ESEA Flexibility Waiver:  HE'E is pleased to be hosting a conversation with Stephen Schatz, Assistant Superintendent for Strategic Reform, about the status of Race to the Top (RTTT) and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver.  Location to be announced.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided.  This conversation will be interactive, giving members and chance to ask questions and give feedback. We know that these topics are of great interest to members so we encourage you to attend! Please save the date!
