Mark your calendar for the upcoming Meet and Greet Saturday, June 13th at A1 Pet Emporium in Oklahoma City from 12-4pm. We will have lots of sweet, adoptable pugs there for you to get acquainted with. If you have been approved for adoption, you can bring your new fur friend home that day.

We have an Amazon wish list of needed supplies and food. Many items can be purchased locally at A1 Pet Emporium but for out of towners the wish list is a great way to help the pugs  of Homeward Bound.

Also, monetary donations are always needed. Our dream is to one day not have any outstanding vet  bills. Please consider a donation to help make our dreams come true.

RIP Tonka

We are always saddened to hear when one of our former pugs passes, but are always grateful that they were able to enjoy their remaining time in loving, forever homes. RIP sweet Tonka.

From Anita: Tonka was a very special boy and was my great grandson. He came from a breeder in Concordia MO as a breeder release along with several other Pugs. This breeder was a good breeder who gave her Pugs to rescue when she retired them. His grandma is my little black girl, Keisha, his daddy is Boo, who belongs to another HBPR adopter, Sonya Nelson.

When Tonka was about 2 ½ years old I took him to the vet to see why he was thin. I knew this wasn't normal for a Pug that was being well cared for. We found out during that visit that he had a really prominent heart murmur. We were referred to the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine for further testing. It was then that I found out that Tonka had two very serious congenital heart defects. He wasn't a candidate for heart surgery because the chance that he would even survive the anesthesia was not good. I was offered a prescription that they said might extend his life or might not as there wasn't a lot of research because most dogs with heart conditions as severe as Tonka's didn't live much past the age of 3.  We got the prescription filled and went home to enjoy our time together.

I was lucky to have approximately another year and a half with Tonka in my life. Fortunately, he didn't realize he was sick until the last couple of days. Tonka passed away quietly at home on May 26th at the age of 4 years, 1 month and 25 days.
