Greetings Friends,

We are honored that The Animal Lover's Monthly Auction Group is hosting an auction for Homeward Bound.  The auction runs now through April 7th at 2pm CST. To participate, just request to join the Facebook group.

You can see all of the items up for auction (and their descriptions) here. There are dozens of items to bid on and some items are one of a kind, handmade just for the auction!

The auction is in memory of sweet Esther who was rescued at the age of thirteen. Because we were able to save her, she lived the best months of her life with a loving family. The funds raised will help us rescue other seniors like Esther who will be able to live the remainder of their lives being loved and pampered.

Please share with your friends and ask them to "like" the auction page.

Thank you so much for your support!

PS: Remember, this is a fundraiser for our needy pugs, so bid high and bid often! If you are outbid, or have chosen not to join the auction, please consider sending a donation. No amount is too small. Many of our senior pugs will, sadly, never be adopted, so we will care for them for the rest of their lives. Your bids and donations help us cover their medical needs as they age.

Pupdate- Bibo

Bibo is about 4 years old. He was rescued by a shelter worker who then called Homeward Bound. Bibo is blind in his left eye and will be having hip surgery in the near future. This little guy was so skinny that bone was grinding on bone. He was clearly neglected in his former home.  He can be food aggressive but does just fine if fed away from other dogs. He can get attention- jealous when new dogs come around but he does fine with his foster siblings (even the cat!)  He's not much of a barker unless he hears someone at the door or he's ready for meal time and walks. His hip doesn't keep him from regular daily non-vigorous walks around the neighborhood. He has never marked in his foster parent's home and hasn't had to wear a belly band in the house. He knows a few basic commands and is generally good about listening to his foster parents. Bibo also has an amazing talent that you can see other pugs perform on Youtube - sometimes when he goes potty he does a walking handstand while urinating! This trick always makes people smile and just adds to his personality. He is a sweet boy who loves being in a human's lap and will definitely make his forever home parents smile.

Happy Tails- Senior Spotlight

ELMER: We began fostering Elmer, a senior pug, from Homeward Bound in November 2010. His profile stated that he had one of the worst cases of fleas and was underweight. One the way home, Elmer only slept. Eventually, we adopted Elmer outright, and he has transformed in the two plus years we have had him. Elmer likes to go for walks and runs at the dog park. He naps with his step-sister pug, Maggie, and likes to lay in the sunshine (Elmer is the one on the right). Elmer no longer needs a belly band. He has been such a wonderful dog and even an inspiration to others! A friend of the family recently rescued a 12-yr old collie. We couldn't imagine our life without our little guy! He continues to bring us happiness every day. Thanks for bringing Elmer into our life, and for all the good work you do. ~Rhonda Krueger

Ernie:This is our sweet boy Ernie. He is apx 7 years old and we adopted him about 3 weeks ago. We could not have asked for a better dog.  Regardless of his age he is our sweet, funny, cuddly puppy. He is hands down the most affectionate dog we have ever had. He is spoiled rotten and we know he deserves every bit of it given his past. How anyone could not love this little boy unconditionally is beyond me. He has made mine and my husbands life so much sweeter by loving us. We are so thankful for Homeward Bound Pug Rescue and what everyone does to help it. Without you this world would be without Ernie and that is sad to believe. Thank you a thousand times for saving him and all of the other sweet, wonderful dogs you do every year. The rewards of adopting him are beyond words. Thank you again!
Sincerely, Courtney and Chad Ashford

George: I found my George about two years ago on petfinder.com.  He was a pretty messed up Pug.  He was a senior dog who was missing an eye, had his tongue hanging out all the time and nearly useless back legs.  Someone dropped him
at the vet and wanted him put down. Thank The Lord the vet called Homeward
Bound!  He made his way to Wisconsin and for the last two years has been the
light of my life!  Everybody loves George! I imagine his life was pretty
hard, but now he lives like a king! I wish people would realize how
rewarding it is to adopt a senior dog. ~ Wanda Larson

*Please consider adopting a senior pug. They have so much to give and ask for so little.

Dog Food Recall Alert:

Here we go again. There have been several recalls of dog food and dog treats lately. Check here to see if the foods and treats you feed your pugs are on the list. Also, PLEASE do not give your pet any chicken strip treats. Many brands come from China, and seem to have a toxin that is killing pets!
