Bentley Update
So many of you have donated to Bentley's care and supported him with prayers and positive thoughts. We want thank you all and give you an update on his progress.
He finally came "home" to Gail this past Sunday. It was hard introducing him to all the pugs there but he is finally settled in and will sleep with them during the day when Gail is home. He still has seizures, but instead of every few minutes they are now several hours in between and they are just seconds in duration.
Bentley is learning to play and today is the first day he acted like a true pug. He ran, begged for a treat and gave kisses to Sprout, the young puppy.
Bentley's vet bills are staggering. As of now they are over $3000. Any further donations would be graciously accepted.
You can donate through our website or send a check to:

In the last few months there have been an alarming number of dog food and dog treat recalls. Most of the recalls are because of salmonella contamination, which can make both humans and dogs severely ill. For more information please visit Dog Food Advisor or sign up to receive email alerts.

Upcoming auction
We are honored that The Animal Lover's Monthly Auction Group is hosting an auction for Homeward Bound. The auction will be in honor of our senior pugs and the much beloved Miss Esther who passed away in January.
The auction starts March 29th at 2pm CST & ends April 7th at 2pm CST. To participate, just request to join the Facebook group. While there please take a moment to read over the information on how the auction works.
In order for the fundraiser to be a success, we are graciously accepting auction items. If you would like to donate something you may do so in the Homeward Bound Pug Rescue designated photo album. Auction items do not have to be pug related as we know that many of you already have plenty of pug stuff!
We are very excited about the auction and hope you will participate. Lately we have taken in a lot of pugs and several have health problems that require expensive medical care. All proceeds raised from the auction will go for their treatment and continuing care. Thank you very much for your support, Gail Tucker, Director *For more information please contact homewardboundpugs@gmail.com |

Happy Tails
Cody
This is my sweet Cody, adopted about 6 years ago from Homeward Bound. He was my foster who just never left; he looked so pathetic and frightened in his profile picture on the web site, and it seemed that nobody wanted him. After about six months, I just said to him, "I guess you're our dog now, buddy." When he first came to HBP, he was very scared, anxious, and timid; when my black pug, Foo Dog, and I played, he just sat in his 'safe place,' a big chair, and watched us. After 3 months, he began to chase after a toy, always snatching it up and immediately hopping back into his chair. Then, he began to run with joy every now and then. After 2 years, he could bring his toy back to me, without having to jump into his safe spot. He still frequently progresses to new happy, normal, dog behaviors. Just a few weeks ago, he ran, chasing Foo through the house just for the sheer goofy pleasure of it, for the very first time. I was so happy that I just laughed out loud. Now, he is my ever-faithful, loyal Cuddlepug, always close to me, always ready to give affection, willing to sit on my lap and just be with me any time. He loves visiting friends, going on home visits for Homeward Bound, walks at the lake, chasing his toys, going to Home Depot. He will be 11 in July, and can easily walk two miles in cool weather. He is still a little shy sometimes, but has transformed into a friendly, happy, playful little guy. I really love his company; nothing makes me happier than seeing a big, goofy grin on his face.
I have no doubt that every scared, traumatized pug can improve, learn to trust, grow in confidence, and gain happiness with enough love, patience, and time. Participating and being able to watch this transformation is a gift better than gold. I urge anyone who reads this to consider adopting an older, "less than perfect" pug who has had a hard time in this sometimes-cruel place. The rewards are immeasurable. This little dog has truly enriched my life. Thank you, Gail, and Homeward Bound, for giving me the opportunity to do just a little good in the world.
