San Marcos Veterans Center & Veterans Assistance of San Diego Join Pegasus Fold
Pegasus is excited to report that we are now collaborating with both the San Marcos Veterans Center and Veterans Assistance of San Diego (a division of Interfaith Community Services) on a weekly basis for group therapeutic sessions with our herd.
Our special herd is now working full time (five days a week) providing their services not only to these two new organizations but also the Veterans Village of San Diego (Downtown and New Resolve branch) and the Navy's OASIS residential treatment program for active duty combat veterans.
PLEASE DONATE TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP US FEED OUR HUNGRY HERD!
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR PEGASUS VETERANS CHRIS AND CARLOS
Pegasus would like to introduce you to Chris and Carlos--combat veterans who "graduated" from our therapeutic program while living at the Veterans Village of San Diego. Chris and Carlos successfully completed their stay at the Veterans Village of San Diego and have remained connected with Pegasus as volunteers helping to take care of our herd.
Chris and Carlos are also invaluable members of our team of Pegasus volunteers who lead us in providing our weekly group therapeutic sessions--being uniquely situated to bond with the veterans when they arrive for their group sessions.
THANK YOU Chris & Carlos for taking such good care of our herd as well as for the trust you have shown and for sharing your experience with our visiting service members!
USC School of Military Social Work & Cal State San Marcos Visits
In August, first year graduate students and staff from the USC's School of Military Social Work visited Pegasus Rising as part of its Community Immersion Program. The day's events included an educational briefing detailing how Pegasus Rising's therapeutic programs have provided therapeutic benefits and assistance in reintegrating both active duty and retired veterans into their civilian and family lives.
In October, Cal State San Marcos Professor Pam Godde and her fall semester students returned for the third consecutive year as part of their Medical Anthropology course curriculum focusing on alternative methods for healing in the many different cultures around the world.
The feedback from both the USC and Cal State staff and students has been overwhelmingly positive and Pegasus is proud to be able to expose these young minds to our herd's healing powers in hopes that equine assisted therapy will no longer be viewed as experimental or an alternative, outside the box method of healing.
Closing Thoughts from Our President
It has been over four and a half years since I joined as a Pegasus volunteer in June, 2009 to run this wonderful project! With the recent 2013 expansion of our services to both the San Marcos Veterans Center and Veterans Assistance of San Diego we are now running at close to full capacity. We are proud to be able to continue to serve so many while remaining an all volunteer run project as no one is being paid for their time spent volunteering!
Please do everything you can to spread the word about our project and help us with donations. If we are to continue to provide our services, we must increase our fundraising efforts as the public's monetary donations are essential as we rely solely on the generosity of our donors to keep our project on course.
Please find it in your hearts to continue to donate money to our worthy cause so we can help our special herd "pay it forward" and aid our returning combat veterans in healing and reintegrating into their civilian lives.
With gratitude,
Gary Adler
