Pegasus Herd and Therapeutic Program Updates
Pegasus Rising
Our herd continues to provide our services to veterans of all eras (and their family members). Pegasus holds its therapeutic sessions 3 times a week with groups of veterans from the Veterans Village of San Diego and active duty combat veterans from the Navy's OASIS residential treatment program located at Point Loma Naval Medical Center.

We also continue to service individual military members who are referred by chaplains, counselors and/or psychiatrists from Special Warfare Operations and Wounded Warriors Battalion West.

The tail end of 2012 and early 2013 has been tough on our aging herd members. We said goodbye to our eldest herd members Glorious and Dalimondo in the fall of 2012 and recently lost Victorious on President's Day to his large inoperable throat tumor after he so valiantly battled it for several years' time. These 3 herd members were instrumental in helping service members heal and reintegrate into their civilian and family lives. We will miss them dearly.

Cal State San Marcos & San Diego State University Students Visit Pegasus Rising

CSU logo2

Cal State San Marcos Professor Pam Godde and her spring semester students are returning for the third consecutive year during the months of March and April as part of their Medical Anthropology course curriculum focusing on alternative methods for healing in the many different cultures around the world.

SDSUIn addition, last fall, Pegasus also began collaborating with San Diego State University's Pre-Veterinary Medical Association and this student group will also be visiting again this semester during the months of March and April.

The feedback from both the Cal State University and San Diego State University students has been overwhelmingly positive. Pegasus is very pleased to be able to tap into the next generation of mental health professionals and veterinarians so that equine assisted therapy will no longer be viewed as experimental or an alternative, outside the box method of healing.

Thank you Mary's Tack & Feed!

Mary's Tack & Feed Holiday Bake Sale

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mary's Tack & Feed for inviting Pegasus to raise awareness and donations at their Del Mar store via our December, 2012 Bale Sale and Holiday Gift Wrapping events as well as Mary's recent February, 2013 Annual Tent Sale Event.

We were honored to be asked by Mary's to join them at their Del Mar store and spread the word to our San Diego community about our herd and their mission to partner horses and humans for healing!

3rd Annual Wine & Feed Fundraiser

Serendipity Garden La Jolla We hosted our Third Annual Wine & Feed Fundraiser on September 22, 2012 at The Serendipity Garden Estate in La Jolla. Pegasus raised approximately $15,000 via ticket sales, donations from those that could not attend the event, as well as a wonderful silent auction with a host of different products and services that were donated by local merchants. It was a picture perfect early fall day and we are proud to report that all of the food and beverage items were donated by San Diego based merchants. We thank all of the merchants, especially Whole Foods, Stone Brewery, PRP Wines, Barefoot Wines and Panera Bread for their generous support!

Closing Thoughts from Our President
It has been almost four years now since I joined as a Pegasus volunteer in June, 2009 to run this wonderful project! I consider myself blessed and I am honored to have been able to devote my time to helping our herd serve over 1,000 participants annually starting with the 2011 calendar year. We are presently on course to serve approximately 1,250 participants in 2013 and we are quite proud and pleased to be able to continue to serve so many while remaining an all volunteer run project as no one is being paid for their time spent volunteering!

Please do everything you can to spread the word about our project and help us with donations. If we are to continue to provide our services, we must increase our fundraising efforts as the public's monetary donations are essential as we rely solely on the generosity of our donors to keep our project on course.

Please find it in your hearts to continue to donate money to our worthy cause so we can help our special herd "pay it forward" and aid our returning combat veterans in healing and reintegrating into their civilian lives.

With gratitude,
