How Does ODB Set a Bigger Table?

long wooden table decorated with dishware for banquet
For those of us already familiar with ODB, feeding delicious and nutritious meals to the hungry is just the start. We know that basic to all that we do is the belief that we extend courtesy and respect and that we do not judge others. That belief is the foundation of our big table.

Other parts of our table are the access to phone and computers and job search help. We celebrate holidays, we get to know each other, we offer medical checks and hygiene items, and our Monday night meals and Saturday lunch certainly make our table bigger.

Our belief in respect and courtesy form our core value, and this core value is what truly helps us set a bigger table.

You can help make the table bigger by forwarding or sharing this newsletter to a friend or relative.
Spreading the word helps, a lot.

Closet Volunteers

Lauren Coker and Jonny Ramsey clearly enjoy their volunteering, and they readily admit they "get a kick" out of some of the items they find in the 4th floor storage closet. Could this rotund tiger be their closet mascot?

Both Lauren and Jonny brought their smiling souls to ODB in 2012 looking for a way to support their community. Lauren had organized a neighborhood food drive, and when she delivered the 315 pounds her neighborhood collected, she was given a tour; she was impressed and hooked. Jonny had recently retired from teaching at Ginnings Elementary and found her way into the closet as chair of Saint Andrew's Community Outreach.

They marvel at the range of items that come from Wal-Mart and Target and they enjoy the work of organizing the goods into usefulness for our clients.

What a pleasure to see these two having a good time
as they do good for others!
And More Closet Volunteers

Kathleen and Tom Sands, members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, state clearly that the 4th floor closet is the "pulse of ODB", driven by and reflecting the varied and seasonal needs of our clients.

This delightful and dedicated wife and husband team are grateful for the opportunity to contribute keeping ODB "green and clean" by sorting, cleaning, and making items such as shampoo, detergent, and even band aids re-packaged into useful amounts.

They believe the spirit that permeates the closet is the same as the one in the kitchen and dining hall: "We meet our clients where they and give them nourishment and items in a form that we would like ourselves."

Their standard of respect and courtesy characterize the heart of ODB, which is grateful to their expression and helps set a bigger table.
