What a deal!

Mark your calendar for this one day a year event that helps you help ODB set a bigger table.

Artists Enclave Has Big Hearts for ODB

Artist Enclave, "a networking organization for artists and supporters to meet, exchange ideas, collaborate and participate in the growing creative world of Denton County", is sponsoring a First Friday Fiesta to benefit ODB and collect much-needed summer hygiene items.

Also supporting the event is:
The Bearded Monk,
122 East McKinney Street.

We've always known the Denton art community has a creative spirit and clever hands; now we know for sure that they and Denton's independent businesses have big, wide-open,
Texas-sized hearts, too.

To learn more about this group of creative folks, go to their Facebook pages and website:
HOBY
Some of us think of catamaran when we hear "hobie", but HOBY means something a little bit different:

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership.
HOBY was founded in 1958 to inspire youth around the globe to lead, serve, and innovate.
As you can see, this group of young 'uns are learning the meaning of service. Service and experience lead to innovation.

Our Daily Bread is honored to be a regular part
of training future leaders.

A FRIEND WE WILL MISS

Of the many wonderful souls who volunteer at ODB, Helen Davis was rare.

Helen served several terms on the Board of Directors of Our Daily Bread. Yes, her service and dedication were remarkable, but her defining qualities were her deeply kind nature and manners of a true lady.

We send our love and comfort to her husband, Wally, and her entire family.

ODB's FAB FOUR, Our Volunteer Spotlight

Our Daily Bread is more than soup, more than a meal, and more than a soup kitchen. ODB is a community that sets a bigger table and meets the needs of people.

Do you know what makes ODB special and successful? If you don't, just listen to what Tom AgaseJay McReynolds, Mike DeFord, and Neal Brady have to say.

Having accrued 20 years of ODB kitchen experience, this team clearly states that ODB is a strong community of volunteers and clients because ODB doesn't allow judgment of anyone. What that means is that you come to ODB because you are hungry and you will be fed and treated with respect.

The Fab 4 are living proof that working for a cause without worry about who is getting credit enriches the souls of everyone. These guys act on the tone set by Chef Liz: "There shall be no judgment of any one. You will serve everyone."

Understand, dear reader, that this team of 4 is Chef Liz's power play: she challenges them with demanding tasks and menus. Think of them as her kitchen ninjas, able to execute the most demanding maneuvers.

So that you know, when they are not in the ODB kitchen "cutting up" (take that as you will), they are in a book study. Their latest reads? Things That Matter and Operation Paperclip.

We're counting on this group of four to train the next generation in all the right stuff, the stuff that makes them what they are.

SAYING THANKS TO NATE

Nate Dears has been our Vista Volunteer for two delightful years. In that time, he has edited our website and pamphlets, as well as managing databases. If a computer screen is involved, Nate has been our go-to. He will take everything he has learned to his new position at Denton County MHMR.

While Nate is seriously reliable, we've included a photo from
A Heart for the Hungry 2016
just to prove he knows how to play, too.

We will have a celebration on July 14th, and Nate has requested his favorite meal: cheeseburgers, oven-fried potatoes, salad, and carrot cake.  And of course, we will have some photos to share in the August edition of The Cutting Board.
