Welcome Our Newest Supporter!

Join us in welcoming Salata, The Next Generation Salad Bar, to their new location in Denton, at 1200 West Hickory, just a few blocks from ODB.

Gahreem Simonian, the lively and lovely owner, searched for a way to connect to and give back to her new community. As she was making plans to open, she found ODB and contacted us with the offer of part of her sales from opening day. Of course, we gave an enthusiastic YES! and sent members of the board to greet customers that day.

Clearly, family and community are important to Ms. Simonian. That's her proud papa with her in the picture, and other members of her family filled up some large tables.
If you missed the grand opening on May 12, you missed some bargains, fun, and vegetable balloon art.

We encourage you to visit the restaurant. Hours are M-F 11-9 and Saturday 11-8.

Todd Werner, Always around His Friends

Walk into the dining hall or kitchen anytime ODB is open and look for this face that belongs to a one dedicated volunteer.

Todd learned about ODB at his church, Argyle United Methodist. As he had retired, he was searching for a way to participate in something meaningful. But the truth is, Todd found that meaning and more; he found a community of friends that feel like family. Whether he is carrying something for Liz, folding chairs and tables, or rolling out the recycling cart, Todd smiles and greets everyone.

Thanks for the good cheer and helping heart and hands, Todd!
Joy Wright, the Right Kind of Joy

Joy....just what her name implies! She brings joy to her friends, acquaintances and anyone she makes eye contact with!

Joy is thoughtful, remembering birthdays and special occasions for many folks. She enjoys lunches out with friends and holds private the conversations of friends.

Her many years of teaching at Ginnings elementary benefitted from her ability to form connections but yet set firm limits.

She has a ready smile for all the clients and they appreciate the friendliness. You might think her a push over being an octogenarian but she definitely reminds them that you do NOT get seconds on desserts!!

Joy, we will let you have seconds anytime!
Thanks for your smiling spirit.

Rock Bottom Outreach

Ever heard about a church that has no building? What about one that has no paid staff? Well, then, you might have heard about Rock Bottom Outreach, a church with a mission to put its hearts and hands to the task of reaching out and helping others.

And help they do; they have served Saturday lunch at Our Daily Bread not once, but twice! They recently served on May 6 and brought a grill on a trailer, and even set up a canopy in case folks needed respite from the sun.

They have members from Gainesville, Krum, and Keller who all gather together at least once a month for a day of service. Look at this data: Rock Bottom Outreach has members from all over Texas and over 6,000 followers on Facebook.  Impressive !

Their organization is unique, and you can read more here
and also visit their Facebook page.

Marybeth Flaherty, who is an Administrative Assistant in Highland Village, reached out to Carly Quintus, ODB Volunteer Coordinator. Liberty Mutual has been coming to ODB for 3 years.

Marybeth initially arranged it for her office only, but being an ODB volunteer has become part of the "Serve with Liberty" company-wide initiative and fills up quickly on their company sign up.

Employees of Liberty Mutual came to ODB for two weeks in May to help with meal preparation and serving.

                                   Looks like they had a great time;
we hear that they are returning!!

Big Thanks to Essentials Day Spa

What do you do on your day off?   Staci Waggoner, of Essentials Day Spa, spent a Monday in May delivering food that the staff and patrons of the spa had collected.

We love surprises like this, and from a neighbor!

Essentials Day Spa is just down the street from ODB at 526 Bolivar.

The range of services is vast, but their hearts?
Their hearts are even bigger!

Saturday, June 4 was Summer Saturday Kickoff!

We welcomed summer and families to our Summer Saturday Kickoff
on June 4.   We kicked it off with some special activities:
bounce house, lawn games, and face painting.
Rock Bottom Outreach and Valley Creek Church brought their smiles and hearts and hands to help serve.
It was a beautiful lunch on the grounds of
 Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church.

Out and About (and is Brenda worn out?)

Executive Brenda Jackson visited Oakmont Country Club May 10.  ODB was honored to be the recipient of a grant from Oakmont Women's Club.

Brenda also attended the United Way Crawfish Boil May 19 and spoke at Immaculate Conception Church May 22.
A Different Kind of Volunteering

If you like scrapbooking or designing displays, enjoy taking photographs, or have some web skills, ODB has a spot for you.

You would be completing some projects, not stuck in meetings.  Much of this work can be done on your terms, with no rush, and in the setting that you choose.
