ODC Welcomes Brenda!

Brenda Jackson comes to Our Daily Bread as our new Executive Director. She brings not only this great smile and warm heart, but a knowledge and love of our community and clients. For over 5 years, Brenda has been at the Salvation Army Denton as the Social Services Coordinator.

More stories to follow as she forges ahead in the future of ODB.
Volunteer of the Month

Lee Kremer is the epitome of reliability, driving every Wednesday and picking up donations from Walmart. On top of that, he has rallied the support of friends AND substitutes when a driving sl
ot is not covered.

He brings his cheerful spirit
and shares his delight in helping others.

Lee has been a driver for us for several years (as in 4 or 5) and partners with his good friend Rick Rahn.  His patience and dedication to ODB are evident in the consistency he shows with donation pick ups...one of our most challenging volunteer positions.

More, Much More than a Soup Kitchen

Dexter (Carl) Risner enjoys ODB and the community of friends that it has become.

One day, as Carl was leaving ODB, Jo Leenhouts noticed that he was struggling  with a walker that just wouldn't roll.

Jo began her search for some improvement, perhaps some tennis balls. While she was looking, another client noticed the situation. She spoke to Carl, offering him a walker that she no longer needed.

In Jo's words, this was a situation where, "an angel was needed and one appeared." This is what community is all about, helping one another, giving, and receiving.

Carl reports being much more active, walking much better, and having much more energy and mobility.   And so Carl proves the lyrics right, once again, "I get by with a little help from my friends"
Did You See This?

Our very own Nate Dears, Vista Volunteer, was featured by AmeriCorps Vista, North Texas. Nate is finishing his second year with us, and has earned his stripes in many ways. We count on him for helping with data on contributions, databases, website functionality, document creation and editing, and a plethora of other computer-based skills. Plus, we appreciate his steady, reliable ways.

Check out the posting about him here.
