1st Monday Night Meal
Over 40 hungry folks enjoyed our first Monday evening meal on October 12, and the numbers crept up a bit for the following meals. Many of our diners took the time to express their appreciation, even stating that they would sleep much better that night with a full tummy.
Several new volunteers joined us, glad to have the opportunity to fit their working schedule.
Two journalism students from University of North Texas came with their cameras to get some news and interviews. Watch their work here. The ODB news article is about 15 minutes in, just after the news about NorthPark and the UNT fashion collection. And watch the next story about UNT's event, CANstruction, which benefitted the Denton Community Food Pantry.

| All in all, the new meal is going well: we are fulfilling our mission to feed the hungry. |

A Very Giving Birthday Girl
The picture captures the spirit of a big-hearted little girl, Emy, who turned 9 years old this fall. In planning her birthday party, she told her parents that she had everything she needed, and rather than receiving birthday gifts for herself, she wanted to ask her friends to donate food or toiletries to Our Daily Bread. Emy learned about ODB because her family had dropped off items this summer and she saw how our program serves the community. Emy was touched. Her mother, Heidi Thaden-Pierce, said Emy eagerly and excitedly told her party guests how their donations would help other families. The box was heavy for her, but she wanted to carry it in and drop it off all by herself.
Emy, your family and all of us in the ODB family are proud of you.
You've got a huge heart!

Trinity United Methodist Hosts Annual Fall Fun
For two weekends in a row, Trinity United Methodist Church hosted events to raise money that would fund and fill local food banks.
Saturday, October 10 was the 5k run or 1-mile walk, the Pantry Dash. Local human and bovine notables attended to encourage the runners.
The next weekend, October 17 was a day-long festival of high-performance cars, games, food trucks, music, fall flowers, and fellowship.
Why do we tell you about it now? Well, we did give you advance notice in September, but mark your calendars for October, 2016. Visit their website here for more information.

Roll 'Em, Roll 'Em, Roll 'Em, Keep Those Wheels A-Rollin'ODB is on the road, again, and on a new route! Here's what's up: North Texas Food Bank and Target cooperated to create a program called, Food4Kids. NT Food Bank wanted to send home non-perishables with kids for the weekend, for their families. They wanted the kids to take it home from school. Target joined in by helping to repackage the items into an amount that would fit into a backpack.
ODB joined in to pick up the items at the food bank and transfer to the Target Distribution Center, where the items are sorted and placed into backpacks. We pick up the backpacks and then deliver them to 7 schools in north Denton Independent School District.
And who is our partner in this venture? Denton Community Food Bank.
Our community is full of an abundance of good hearts, helping hands, and dedicated drivers!

The Bowls May Have Been Empty, But Our Tummies Were Not!
The smell of wonderful soup must have drifted all over town last gray, cool, wet Saturday, October 24.
Many, many months of designing, crafting, glazing, turning, sanding, and firing created the artisan bowls you see.
Hours and hours of chopping, sautéing, roasting, and bubbling went into the soups you tasted.
Then the quilts and crafts and photographs were viewed and reviewed so that they would appeal to you.
To the countless worker bees and artists and chefs, we give thanks. Your time and talents are testimony to your mission: to feed the hungry.

Volunteer of the Month: Melissa Adamson
What drew Melisa to ODB? Many reasons, but the particular inspiration that prompted her to sign up was remembering a dear friend who had recently passed away but had introduced Melisa to volunteer work more than two decades ago.
Melisa believes in the absolute necessity of community and that serving is important and beneficial to all parties involved.
In her own words, Melisa explains some highlight moments from this past year "were seeing people do well and help themselves. A couple of different clients have come in specifically to thank me for helping them. Each client had good news to report; one had gotten a good job and one had found work and signed an apartment lease. The most satisfying part for me is seeing that kind of success."

Rick's Birthday
If you know Rick, you know he is an on-the-go, quick-as-a-wink, kind of guy.
Earlier in October, he was entirely caught off guard by a request (more like a command) to leave his office and go the ODB office next door. Waiting for him there was a crew assembled to wish him Happy Birthday and celebrate with cupcakes.
Rick slowed down long enough to offer his thanks and tease and joke a bit. He dashed back to work again, but with a cupcake in his hand, on the run!
