Millie's Retirement Party

These pictures share the appreciation we showed Millie at her retirement party;
Millie smiled through
all the well wishing

She took some teasing from Board member Bob Stewart, who presented her with a volunteer application he has filled out for her.

Tom Newell spoke of the breadth of Millie's leadership, and Millie spoke about the community that is Our Daily Bread.

Millie has guided ODB to its 600,000th meal served and established us as  501c3, among many other accomplishments that have set us on a smooth course.

Rick's New Position
Rick Holliman
The personnel committee interviewed a wealth of exceptional candidates and the Board of Directors selected Rick Holliman as the new Executive Director.

Rick came to ODB with significant food industry training and skills. From 1976 through 2011, Rick held multiple positions of increased responsibilities in the areas of quality assurance, contract administration, plant and production management, and Division Manager. He worked for corporations such as Kroger; Food Source, Inc; and Design Foods (a division of Sara Lee Corp.). He brings a wealth of knowledge about food and employee safety practices, as well as development of training practices and procedures in these areas.

Rick began as a volunteer in ODB's kitchen in early 2012, progressing to the paid position of Senior Program Coordinator in March 2013. In that position, Rick was responsible for coordinating all program activities associated with clients, as well as coordinating the activities of program coordinator volunteers.

In April 2014, Rick was chosen as Executive Administrator with major responsibilities of executing daily office activities, acting as the administrative support to the Chef and the Senior Program Coordinator and working directly with the Executive Director to accomplish the mission of ODB.
Rick assumes his official capacity as Executive Director on July 16, 2015. Millie worked directly with Rick for a smooth transition of duties until July 31. 2015

Please join us in welcoming Rick to his new assignment!

TWU Social Work Seniors Packing Up and Cutting Up

Many hands make light work, and a group from Texas Woman's University brought their hearts and their hands to ODB July 21.  Led by Debbie DeGadillo and Amy Rachel, these social work majors packed 50 snack bags, clothing bags, and hygiene bags for our clients.

Amy, in addition to school and volunteering, owns a local taxi service, www.ziptripscabs.net.  She saw the need for a taxi service when she worked in a local hospital and has been in business since October 2014. Amy and Debbie have a shared goal of opening a day-time shelter for the homeless.  They have strong and true hearts for making a difference and dent!

The contributions from Make a Dent in Denton didn't stop with packing bags. They continued their service by offering to spiff up clients with fresh haircuts!

Their ultimate goal is to open a day shelter for the homeless so they will have someplace to go when they leave ODB.

What a dedicated and giving group!

Clearing Things Up

On Thursday, July 30, Prevent Blindness Texas supplied machines and interns to offer free vision screenings.   The organization brought interns, assessment machines, and the forms necessary to recommend clients to doctors and connect clients to vouchers for reduced-price or free vision services.

Many thanks to Martha Rojas of Catholic Charities who helped connect ODB with the Healthy Eyes program, one of many programs offered by Prevent Blindness Texas.

Volunteer Spotlight

Rolph Holt has been with us since May, 2013. Rolph is a self-starter who assumed more responsibility when Jim Warsop first became ill. When ODB is open, Rolph is here, helping in every way possible.

Both his daughters, Mikaela & Corrine also volunteer, as well as his niece, Madeline, who now lives with them. His, wife, Dianne, serves as secretary on the Denton Community Health Clinic.

Rolph is a really great guy with an incredible heart
whom we value and appreciate!
