The Fifth Annual Student Art Show

ART, FUN, AND APPRECIATION
The festive outpouring of community spirit, creativity, generous support, and artistic talent that makes up The Pathways Schools Student Art Show came together on April 20 at Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville. It was our Fifth Annual "Pathways to the Arts" event, and it was as well-attended and successful as ever. Students and their families, staff and board members, as well as alumni staff and students and community supporters came and enjoyed the evening.  Much attractive artwork was on display. Just as beautiful was the encouragement and affirmation given to our students and the gratitude they and their teachers expressed in return. The art show is a fundraiser to support Pathways' arts, alternative therapies, transition, and education programs. It is also an opportunity to thank all those members of the community who help the students with work and job experience, training, arts education, alternative therapies, and more. One of these is selected each year to receive the Community Partner award, which is presented during the show. Patrons, student artists, Pathways staff, and community representatives appreciated viewing the art and crafts on display while conversing with friends old and new and supporting the  The Pathways Schools programs.

Community Partner of the Year
Building Hope, Inc.
Coressa Williams and Dr. DuBeau

Building Hope is an organization whose name aptly describes its purpose, which is to encourage and assist displaced single parents and their children facing the aftermath of divorce, domestic violence, loss of employment, or all of these things. Founded by Coressa Williams with her husband, Earl Williams, in 2003, Building Hope first connected with Pathways in 2012, when our students began volunteering there. The students moved furniture, did grounds keeping at the apartment building, and assisted with the holiday "Angel Tree". It was and is a partnership that builds hope for our students as well as the families they serve. The young people gain work experience and the satisfaction of giving to others. The partnership has flourished. In 2014, Building Hope honored a Pathways student volunteer at its annual Gala, and this year, we honor Building Hope with our Community Partner of the Year Award
