Greetings!

We celebrate our students who committed themselves to this year's theme and have grown from "students today" into "leaders tomorrow."  The Pathfinders documented their activities and achievements. Our students have:
  • beautified their school's town
  • raised money for the Breast Cancer Society's Empower One Scholarship Fund
  • learned about other cultures, U.S. history, music, the environment, mural art, and mosaic in arts residencies and in their classrooms
  • dialoged with visiting politicians from differing parties
  • spoken at MANSEF advocacy day in Annapolis
  • learned what it takes to own and operate a business
  • gotten first hand experience as tellers and credit union branch managers
  • helped others overcome fears at therapeutic horseback riding
  • created stunning art on display at the Student Art Show

Now they go on to graduation, post-secondary education and training, careers, jobs and life.  We couldn't be more proud.

Pathways is thrilled to announce that Isaiah Allen is the proud recipient of a Michael Cardin Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 1998 by the Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities (MANSEF) to provide financial assistance to deserving special education students to pursue their dreams. It is awarded yearly to students in MANSEF schools who have demonstrated outstanding performance, motivation, commitment to improvement, potential for success and financial need.

Isaiah attended Pathways-DuVal Re-Entry. He worked diligently toward his academic and personal goals with quiet persistence and genuine good humor.  Frequently on the honor roll, he ended the year with a 3.0 GPA.  He participated in junior varsity football, the photography club and the environmental club.   These extracurricular activities were a real commitment for Isaiah, since he lives outside the range of school transportation.  His participation and his academic success are particularly impressive because he pursued them even during a period of homelessness and while helping to care for a disabled younger brother.  Isaiah will attend Bridgewater College in Virginia in the fall.

One song can spark a chorus.
One flower can animate a garden.

One tree can start a forest.

One bird can hail spring.

One smile begins a friendship.

One grasp lifts a soul.

One star can guide a ship at sea.

One word can frame the goal.

One voice can change a nation.

One sunbeam lights a room.

One candle can conquer the darkness.

One laugh can overcome the gloom.

One path starts each journey.

One idea begins each dream.

One vision will raise our spirits.

One touch can show you care.

One voice can speak with hope.

One heart can know what's right.

One life can make a difference.

You see, it's up to you!
