November 15, 2013

As we near the end of the first semester, our students are getting more and more opportunities to put their skills to work in the community through work experiences and community service. This is the kind of hands-on training that we are thrilled to see our students get involved in, as it complements everything they are doing in the classroom and in their DACC lab. Below are just some of the activities our students have been up to.

We are excited to continue sharing with you the opportunities our students have to be college, career, and life ready.

Upcoming Events

November 20th - 22nd

School to Career Days
Each year, we have the opportunity to host area tenth grade students and showcase what DACC has to offer. Your son or daughter will not be in attendance that day unless they have been asked to help facilitate the visits. A letter has been mailed home with more details about these three days.

November 24th
Delaware Christmas Parade

Look for our DACC Fire students in the Delaware Christmas Parade. Fire Instructor, Captain Huffman, will be driving the fire truck through the parade and our students will be walking the route, collecting food donations for People In Need. Don't forget to bring your food item for the collection.

November 27th

No High School Classes
November 27th is a Parent Teacher Conference Trade Day. Therefore, there will be no high school classes.

November 28th & 29th
Thanksgiving Break - no high school classes

Stay up to date on all of our upcoming events on the DACC web site.

DACC Hosts College & Career Fair

On November 13th, DACC hosted a College and Career Fair.

This was a great opportunity for our students to talk about their future options. We had representatives from colleges, military, and local businesses.

DACC Ambassadors Share Their Knowledge at Schultz

On November 11th, a group of DACC Ambassadors visited the Delaware School Aged Child Care program at Schultz Elementary. They ran an environmental-themed scavenger hunt and shared some of the things they learn everyday in the Wildlife & Resource Management program at DACC.

Landscape Students Create Display at OSBA Conference

DACC's Landscape students recently created a beautiful display at the Ohio School Board Association's conference in downtown Columbus.

As a bonus, they were able to meet John Ratzenberger, who was a guest speaker at the event and a great supporter of Career and Technical Education.

IT-Digital Media Students Assist American Red Cross

Every year, DACC's IT-Digital Media students attend the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast in order to take photos and videos of the event.

After the event, they come back and turn that footage into a video for the Red Cross.

This year, we added even more talent to the event. Madison Arseneau closed the event, singing and playing the guitar.

School Delays and Closings

In the event of a school delay or closing, DACC notifies local TV/radio stations, the information is posted to the DACC web site and social media platforms, and a Honeywell Instant Alert is sent out to those who subscribe. However, school delays can be a little confusing and not everyone knows exactly what to do. Below are our most frequently asked questions regarding delays:

Q: I'm a half-day junior. Do I come to my morning lab on a 1 or 2 hour delay?
A: Yes. However, if the roads in your area are too treacherous to travel, your absence will be considered excused as long as we have a note or phone call from your parent.

Q: I'm a half-day senior. Does my lab start at the regular time on a 1 or 2 hour delay?
A: Yes - plan to come to your afternoon lab at the regular time.

Q: I'm a full-day senior. On a 1 or 2-hour delay, where should I go upon arriving at school?
A: When you arrive at school, go straight to the class you are normally in at that time. For instance, if you arrive at 9am, go straight to your 9am class.

Q: My home school is on a 2-hour delay, but DACC is not. What do I do?
A: Follow your home school's delay schedule. Bring a parent note with you when you do arrive late to DACC in order for your absence to be excused.
