The PAGES Program

The PAGES program pairs literacy and writing with the exploration of contemporary art, film, and the performing arts at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

On stage, English 12 students viewed I, Malvolio, the 4th production by performing artist Tim Crouch, that uses characters from Shakespeare as creative springboard to his own funny and engaging way to draw young audiences to Shakespeare. I Malvolio is a re-imagination of Twelfth Night, and is performed in modern English, but uses a minor character's perspective creatively to reach a younger audience.

In Mrs. Forster's class, visiting artist Chelsea Phillips used personification to explore how Olivia's house and garden might feel about the people who inhabit their world-there was some excellent sad grass and some great staging moment in the scene when Malvolio receives "Olivia's" letter. Particular favorites were the bird noises, sneezes (and Monty Python quotes) the statues, trees, and bushes used to cover up the sounds of Toby and Andrew talking.
