GIS Solution Provides Quick and Effortless Data Retrieval

Do you want to save money by improving the efficiency of your property management?

Entrance to The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay Community.

Consider turning your AutoCAD design files into a Geographical Information System. McCrone's Salisbury office provided a system for The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay development saving management real time and money. With the click of a mouse, Kim Wise, The Peninsula Community Association board member, states, "What would have taken me a couple of hours to do; I can now do in 10 minutes."

In Sussex County, it also saves time traveling to the county offices to retrieve and verify information.   The increase in productivity will last day after day and year after year for the life of the community!

With 1,404 building units within the development, a golf course, community village, and all the associated utilities, McCrone presented a GIS solution to replace the hoards of paper documents and construction records. Scott Aja, VP, proposed McCrone's GIS professionals develop a graphical base with data layers that you simply click on and off (like Google Earth) to view the information desired.

In addition to the layers, attributed information for parcel ownership, roads, golf course, utilities, and environmental features are provided in a user-friendly format.

Ms. Wise states, "We had McCrone set up both administrative and read-only common user log-ons. We leave the common user version running all the time for anyone to use without the fear of losing data or it being modified."  With ArcGIS Explorer, property managers, custom builders, homeowners, and maintenance personnel can "have quick real answers to questions based on as-built information."

Not only did McCrone's GIS team perform a conversion of the AutoCAD design data and as-built data, the services also included procuring the necessary hardware, preloading the software, data downloading and testing the system prior to delivery to ensure everything worked seamlessly. After installation, the training was performed one-on-one.

After using for a few months Ms. Wise states, "I really love the system. At first, I was just intrigued with the technology, but now it is functional!"  The HOA is currently considering adding layers for third party utilities, pond maintenance, and irrigation lines.

Asked if Ms. Wise would recommend GIS to other HOAs, she responded "Oh yes; HOAs, property management firms, and institutional users.  Mr. Mertens from Chesapeake College and I were talking about how we had the same problems locating information on facilities, except his were in the building and mine were outside the building.  We're different types of businesses but we have the same issues!"
