McCrone Values Its Community Involvement

Singerly Fire Station under construction, Phase 1.

One of McCrone's primary objectives has been to take care of and improve the communities in which we live and work.

Our Elkton office has had the privilege of providing the local community with professional engineering design and survey services on a number of renovation/redevelopment projects. These include the Elkton Senior Apartments, Elkton United Methodist Church, Union Hospital, Elkton High School, Cecil Community College-Elkton Station, and more recently, the Singerly Fire Company, Station 13.

The Singerly Fire Company project required civil engineering and surveying for two phases of construction on the 15-acre site. Phase 1 encompassed the addition of eight new apparatus bays, 10 bunk rooms, recreational room, kitchen, two training rooms, and new offices for the chief and assistant chief for emergency medical services. During Phase 2, most of the current station was demolished, and the part that remained was remodeled to include a new engineer's bay and small banquet hall.

Because of the project being the redevelopment of an existing site and the need to keep the fire station operational during construction, stormwater management (SWM) had to be addressed with many small facilities spread around the site. Permeable pavement, underground infiltration trench, landscape infiltration, rain garden, dry wells, and a retrofit of the existing SWM pond were designed. Through their team effort, McCrone's Project Manager Dave Strouss, P.E., Mike Kraft, and Mark Lloyd were able to accomplish the task successfully.

Dave Strouss comments, "This turned out to be a great project because of the teamwork of all parties...from the fire company to the construction manager/builder (Nowland Associates), architect (ABHA), and the site contractor (Nichols Construction). It's a project we will be proud of for a long time."
