McCrone Project Manager Volunteers for Summer STEM Camp

Bill explains the Pasta Bridge Project to STEM attendees at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, MD.

Bill Brooks, P.E. of McCrone's Annapolis office recently volunteered at a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Camp held by Chesapeake College for local area gifted and talented seventh through ninth graders. The class consisted of a two-day session where students learned about various engineering disciplines and basic bridge designs. Camp culminated with participants building bridges made of spaghetti noodles and glue. This provided students the opportunity to put what they learned about design and construction into practice.

Students competed with each other testing their bridge design and construction to determine the amount of weight the structure could hold. The winning design weighed 4 ounces and held 7 pounds, or roughly 28 times its own weight.

Bill enjoyed mentoring (what could be) some of Maryland's future engineers. He is a project manager in the Land Development division of McCrone with expertise in stormwater management and environmental site design in the commercial, industrial, institutional and residential markets.
