State Road Right of Entry Permits: McCrone Attends Maryland State Highway Administration Seminar
 | | Construction of the first macadamized road in the United States. |
Did you know that a paved road, often referred to as "macadam" was actually a method of open-structured roadway construction simplified by layering small stones with a coating of binders as a cementing agent, pioneered by and named after a Scottish engineer named John Loudon McAdam?
On June 6, 2014, a group of McCrone professionals attended a one day seminar sponsored by the Maryland Society of Surveyors. Representatives from the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) provided a fascinating and informative presentation of early roads history in Maryland from 1643 to the present. Attendees were also given a quick peek at the future of transportation, including a driverless car.

Seminar topics included discussion of State road development, mapping/plats, records housed by the SHA, research tools, route surveys, establishing rights-of-way, easements, developer donation deeds, road safety, and right of entry permits necessary while conducting work in or adjacent to a State road. Information presented at this seminar will assist McCrone with land development and utility projects that may be situated along State roads requiring a right of entry permit.
In addition, the Maryland 511 system was reviewed. Found at www.md511.org, this website assists the general public in finding traffic information related to accident delays, work areas, traffic cameras, and weather conditions.
