Testing and Evaluation Reform on Deal's Desk

SB 364, critical student testing and educator evaluation reform, has passed the legislature and is under consideration by Gov. Deal. The legislation represents an enormous advocacy push by PAGE, educators, and parents and an effective collaboration with other education groups, State School Superintendent Woods, and key legislative leaders. Read more about SB 364 and the PAGE 2016 Legislative Agenda on PAGE's I Promise page.

Gov. Deal has until May 3 to sign or veto any legislation which successfully passed the General Assembly. If he fails to take action, any remaining legislation will become law after May 3. If he vetoes legislation in the 40-day period after the legislature adjourns, the legislature could reconvene to override the veto with a supermajority vote.
PAGE Letter to Gov. Deal

On behalf of more than 90,000 PAGE members and the students they serve, PAGE has asked the governor to sign SB 364 so that schools can prepare to implement the important reforms as soon as possible.

Read the letter from PAGE to Gov. Deal HERE along with PAGE's reference to Gov. Deal's planned Teacher Advisory Council.

PAGE also asked Gov. Deal to consider the unintended impact of HB 859 and HB 792, two bills expanding Second Amendment rights on Georgia college and university campuses. Unfortunately, the bills do not exclude on-campus daycare centers and instances where Pre-K - Grade 12 programs are housed on college and university campuses. Read more about Gov. Deal's concern about on-campus facilities serving young students HERE. PAGE has requested that the governor work with legislators to protect students and staff involved and to ensure the safety of high school students jointly enrolled in higher education classes.
