Under Standard 8: Abandonment of Contract, an educator should expect a suspension for 90 days for breaking his or her contract unless the breach fits under one or more of the exceptions listed below.

The GaPSC reiterated that it will not sanction an educator's certificate for abandonment of contract if:
  1. The educator resigned prior to June 1, for the upcoming school year; or
  2. The educator resigned after June 1, and provided at least two weeks' notice for a documented promotion within the field of education; or
  3. The educator resigned after June 1, and provided at least two weeks' notice due to a spousal transfer and relocation outside of a reasonable commuting distance; or
  4. The educator resigned after June 1, and provided at least two weeks' notice due to a serious illness within the family that requires the educator's full-time care and attention.

The GaPSC will be convening a number of task forces to address leader preparation and certification rules next year.

A Progress Report from the University of Georgia's College of Education for its Special Education Preschool Endorsement Program is due to the GaPSC in March 2016.  The report should specifically address how the program is assuring inter-rater reliability among multiple assessors when assessing its candidates' performance.

The Commission granted a one-year deferral of the GaPSC/CAEP ("Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation") Continuing Approval Review for Toccoa Falls College.
