After the full Education Reform Commission meeting, the Move on When Ready Subcommittee met to discuss a set of action statements created over the course of their last few meetings.

Eliminating Seat Time Requirements the Key to Move on When Ready?
Much of the discussion continued to focus around giving students the ability to move on to different levels of instruction instead of being tied to seat time requirements. The committee feels that seat time requirements constrain those students that may be learning faster when these students should be provided opportunities to accelerate their learning. Eliminating seat time requirements would also allow schools to bolster their career, technical, and agricultural education (CTAE) programs and utilize these programs in preparing students in college and career tracks with the help of local businesses.

Flexibility with Standardized Testing
The committee also discussed the need for flexibility with standardized testing. By tying standardized testing into a competency based education program (as discussed in the previous paragraph), the committee feels students would have more autonomy to move more quickly or more slowly as they master the material rather than requiring a student to prove mastery of material at one set time of the school year.
