Education Reform Commission Meets to Discuss Committee Reports
The Governor's Education Reform Commission met on Tuesday, June 23rd to discuss the progress of the committees that have been meeting frequently throughout the summer. Each committee chair presented a PowerPoint on the work they have done since the last meeting.
Highlights of the PowerPoint include slides from the School Choice Committee on voucher programs including education savings accounts as well as the Early Childhood Committee's slides on pre-k enhancements.

ERC Teacher Committee Hears Recommendations from Out-of-State Groups on Teacher Pay & Retirement Benefits
On Wednesday, June 24th, the Teacher Recruitment, Retention, Compensation, chaired by Pam Williams, met to hear presentations from several different organizations.
David Hill, the Division Director for Educator Preparation & Certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, presented the tiered certification system to committee members. He also provide several recommendations on how compensation may be tied to this system should the committee decide to make this recommendation to the full Commission.
Sandi Jacobs, the Vice President and Managing Director of State Policy for the National Council on Teacher Quality, presented information about teacher compensation, retirement systems, and other topics related to making the teaching field more attractive and to retain quality teachers.
Berrick Abramson, a Partner of Performance Management for The New Teacher Project, presented strategies for developing new education policies. He followed this presentation with strategies for keeping "irreplaceable" teachers employed at their schools.
