Georgia Professional Standards Commission Meeting
April 2014

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) had its monthly meeting on April 10, 2014:

Ethics Cases

The GaPSC reviewed a number of ethics cases.  An intent to deceive is usually required to show misrepresentation or falsification under Standard 4: Honesty of the Code of Ethics for Educators.  While it is not as high-profile as it was a few years ago, testing is still an important issue, particularly around the time the CRCT is administered.  To review the Code of Ethics for Educators, including Standard 11: Testing, please CLICK HERE.

Tiered Certification Approval

The Commission voted to adopt new and amend existing rules on certification and educator preparation.  The new Tiered Certification system will replace the current teacher certification system beginning July 1, 2014.

The Commission discussed some of the comments it received from the public regarding the then-proposed Tiered Certification rules.  Due to some of the concerns pointed out in those statements, there were some changes to the rules, including lessening barriers to the recruitment of out-of-state educators.  The rules are likely to be reviewed and may be amended in the future.

In addition, a task force is currently working on professional learning requirements for educators.  PAGE will keep members updated on these and other developments from the GaPSC.
