This event is the Parents Club's largest annual fundraiser, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to fulfilling teacher and staff requests for items that directly enhance students' academic experience.

This year, Solterra donated a Miniature Garden Set along with a $50 Gift Certificate toward our landscaping services. We have supported Pace's Auction the past 5 years.

Can't be there on the 23rd? Participate in the Silent Auction online. Viewing and bidding starts March 1st. Click here.

Greetings!

We're excited to be featured at the 2013 Southeastern Flower Show. The show theme is "What's Old is New Again" and our garden will highlight an antique Italian bocce ball court.

Solterra was nominated for a "Sandy" in the category of Sandy Springs Small Business of the Year. Think Oscar, but for our local community. We were thrilled by the honor!

In this newsletter, check out our featured project of the month, our maintenance recommendation, and an article about the problem with pansies this winter.

  Berg upper backyard
  • A Batting Cage
  • Rubber sports tiles for the basketball court
  • Putting and Chipping Greens
  • A Koi Pond next to the pool complete with a waterfall and built-in custom pool slide
  • A Zip Line
  • A Children's Raised Platform Playhouse painted to match the exterior of the home
  • Outdoor lighting so that the entire backyard can be enjoyed at night.

Other fun existing elements are a pool, spa, and firepit.

Maintenance Focus - A Time to Cut Back

 Orn grass dormant

 Orn grass cutback
January to early March
is the time for cutting
back ornamental grasses
and Liriope. Cut as close
to the ground as possible.

March is the time to cutback warm-season turf (turf that is 'brown' during the winter).  'Scalp' brown turf types such as Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, and St. Augustine by setting lawn mower as low as it will go without the blades hitting the dirt.  This will remove the top, dead thatch blades and allow more sunlight and fertilizer to reach the root crown. New growth begins as temperatures enter the 60s and higher.

Problems with Pansies

pansies Perhaps your pansies are not doing well this winter or have died. The weather is
likely the cause. Pansies need cool temperatures (most days 50 degrees or below), bright sunlight, and moderately dry soil. Most of our winters in Atlanta have conditions that produce gorgeous, thriving pansies. In contrast, this winter has featured warm temps, mostly cloudy days, and excessive rainfall.

For pansy beds and containers installed by Solterra, Meg has diligently been fertilizing and treating the pansies to inhibit fungus and root rot. In places where pansies have died, we have been replacing them at no charge to our clients.

DON'T DISPAIR! The time for summer annual planting is around the corner (starting mid-April). When we have a bad winter for pansy performance, conditions are usually better the following winter.

Meg will send proposals for the summer season annuals throughout this month.

RESPOND EARLY so we can get your plants ordered, schedule your installation and add color to your landscape.
