Nonprofit Spotlight: Operation Santa SC, Inc
Operation Santa SC Inc. is looking for companies interested in giving back to our community while experiencing a fun team-building activity. The mission of Operation Santa SC Inc. is to inspire friends and friends of friends, through their financial generosity and volunteer commitment, to partner with Greenville County Title 1 Schools to provide the basic necessities to kids who otherwise would not experience the joy of gifts during the holiday season.
These children need specific things like clothes, socks, underwear, pajamas, winter coat, shoes that fit, etc. they will also receive a toy that they have requested (football or Barbie Doll) and one educational item (puzzle, book or art supplies) - there will not be any request for big ticket items. The focus of Operation Santa SC is on their daily needs. Cost per child is usually around $100-125. Teams shop and wrap presents together for these local children, while enjoying the holiday spirit and gift of giving. Your team's involvement can make a huge difference in the lives of these children!
Operation Santa began in 2000 when John Sheppard, Principal and husband to Kathy, saw the need to help students in his school that were less fortunate. Kathy and John shopped for five children and the gifts were given to the families. In 2012 Operation Santa SC Inc. was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit. In 2012 through the generosity of friends and friends of friends and businesses, they were able to give gifts to 130 kids. Their goal for 2013 is 200!
