Networking for Nonprofit Awareness

NETnight is a quarterly opportunity for diverse business owners and professionals to network. At our first meeting, held at Studio 220 at the Hyatt on March 26th, we had an estimated 300 in attendance.

The evening combined the sharing of sub-stantive information relevant to minority professionals with an opportunity to highlight a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to address the needs of diverse communities.

Diversity Leadership Pipeline

Leadership diversity is critical to the achievement of the Chamber's vision of Greenville becoming the premier business community in the world. The Greenville Chamber actively supports talented women and minorities in our community in achieving leadership positions in greater numbers. Each year the Chamber executes strategies to advocate for leadership diversity within under-represented pop-ulations. Examples include the ATHENA Leadership Symposium and ACE Leadership Symposium.

The Diversity Leadership Pipeline is an initiative to advance women and minorities in leadership roles in the Greenville community. Through this initiative, the Greenville Chamber will serve as a key resource for Upstate organizations looking to fill volunteer leadership roles. To date, we have more than 600 people in the pipeline and are service 30 organizations.

Issue: 2
Spring 2013

Greetings!

V.P. of Diversity and Inclusion, Greenville Chamber

This newsletter is dedicated to all those individuals and organizations in our wonderful community that have taken such an interest in our diversity and inclusion efforts. Your belief in what we are doing to help the Upstate become a destination for professionals, their families, and business growth, you are to be commended. Along with your help, the Greenville Chamber has accom-plished a lot in a short period of time. We have sensitized so many to the tremendous impact that intentional diversity and inclusion efforts can have on our community. Greenville and the entire Upstate has a remarkable opportunity to lead the way across the state, and beyond, in becoming a premier business community that models diversity and inclusion.

To reach this impressive goal will take continued support, engagement and innovation, but I've never been more encouraged than I am right now. Thank you for welcoming me into this role and for continuing to show us at the Greenville Chamber that our efforts to operate effectively in the space of diversity and inclusion is not in vain. I started my new assignment eight months ago on a listening tour. That listening tour continues today and will always be a significant strategy for success. I want to hear from you and invite you to engage with us on this journey of creating economic development through diversity and inclusion.

Nika White

Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion

Chamber's VP of D&I Served as Keynote for WIA Event

The Chamber's VP of Diversity and Inclusion, Nika White, loves to share the work of the Chamber to update groups and associations. Nika was the keynote speaker at the SC Upstate Women in Architecture March Luncheon. As a thank you the WIA presented Nika with a piece of art created for her by one of the WIA members, Joy Morgan Newberry.

Diversity Recruitment Consortium

South Carolina is home to many national and inter-national businesses seeking diverse professional talent for their organizations. Often this talent is deterred from relocating to the state due to the perception that South Carolina is not inclusive or progressive. This negative image hinders the economic development necessary for the state to thrive.

The Diversity Recruitment Consortium (DRC) is a group of organizations led by three founding sponsors: The Riley Institute, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Greenville Chamber of Commerce - working together to collectively develop innovative programs, practices, and processes to increase the diversity of professional and executive talent in South Carolina-based organizations.
