Leadership Greenville Projects Underway!
GREAT NEWS! After two years of hard work, the Leadership Greenville Class 37 project to bring a Bike Share system to Greenville is officially happening! Under the direction of Upstate Forever, funding for the "B-Cycle" operated system was made possible by the Greenville Hospital System, Greenville Transit Authority, and Greenville Rec District. In-kind donations were also provided by Erwin Penland, Safe Kids Upstate and LiveWell Greenville. The system will launch in the Spring of 2013 with 6 stations and 28 Trek-built bicycles.

Class 39 is Celebrating SC Arbor Day
at the Swamp Rabbit Station Groundbreaking this Friday, Dec. 7th and You're Invited!
Leadership Greenville Class 39 is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony and tree planting
ceremony for the new Swamp Rabbit Station at the railcar located by the Sulphur Springs Road and Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Trail intersection this Friday, December 7th at 2:00 pm. This Friday is also SC Arbor Day, and Class 39 has partnered with TreesGreenville to raise awareness about their important mission while beginning the beautification of the pocket park. Everyone is invited - please come!
One of three Leadership Greenville projects this year, Class 39 is working with Greenville County Recreation District to refurbish a 70-year-old boxcar and create a unique destination that will be a resting/gathering point along the Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Trail. Class members envision the park, located at the Sulphur Springs Road intersection, to act as a gateway to a revived Berea community. Swamp Rabbit Station will stand in the center of the 17-mile trail, a heavily used resting and turn around spot for families, cyclists and runners. Lead and asbestos have been removed from the railcar, and paint restoration is next on the list. Greenville Water System and the Greenville Track Club will contribute a water fountain and Mast General Store and Keen Footwear will provide park benches. Class 39 is seeking a primary sponsor to fund the project and receive naming rights to the park.

BEST Tip of the Week On average, 50% of a waste container's contents are materials that can be recycled. If you get the right recycling vendor and process in place, you can lower your overall waste bill through recycling. If your business is looking to start a recycling program, or even if you already have one in place, one of the easiest ways to promote recycling is to make sure recycling containers are well labeled and as convenient as - or more convenient - than trash cans. Take time to train employees about what gets tossed into recycle bins and/or trash. Be specific with descriptions, using product names used in your establishment. For example, cans from the XYZ company get recycled, but the ABC company containers go into the trash. Compile a list of what can be recycled and post it on the bulletin board or at work stations. Visit FurmanBEST.biz for more ways to reduce your waste and landfill contributions.
