We took your advice! 2015 SedonaOffice Users Conference

The 2015 SedonaOffice Users Conference will have many of the things that our customers have come to love - great location, strong education and lots of interaction with other users.  Based on attendee feedback we have changed a few things for 2015 that we are excited to share with you.

West Coast - we have taken the conference across the country to the beautiful Loews Coronado Bay Hotel in Coronado, California.  We look forward to seeing our West Coast customers and welcoming back many East Coast customers.

Education - sessions will begin on Monday and there will be two differentiated tracks, one for beginners and one for advanced users that will include best practices.

Executive Focus - content has been created for executives that will both challenge and improve how they run their business.  Industry veteran John Jennings will lead sessions on Monday and award-winning author Dave Mitchell will lead a one-day workshop on Tuesday. To learn more about the workshop read here.

Free Night - explore San Diego on your own.  Monday night there is no programming after 4 PM so you will have the opportunity to see the area a bit beyond the hotel's boundaries.

We hope to see you in Coronado Bay, California and encourage you to register by October 17th to save on your registration fee and receive $500 SedonaOffice Dollars.  Also, be sure to book your hotel to ensure that you receive our preferred rate.

The Common Traits Between Superstar Sales Managers and Superstar Salespeople ... Not Many

By Gretchen Gordon, Braveheart Sales

Most sales managers (82% to be exact) are not effective coaching their salespeople.  Yikes!  That is a big percentage of folks that aren't good at doing what they need to be doing most of the time.  So why is that?  I think it is because they don't actually know what they are supposed to be doing.  Let's face it, the vast majority of sales managers never went to sales manager training school.  They were more than likely a good salesperson who got promoted to that role while their boss crossed his or her fingers that it would work out.  Okay, so now they are expected to be superstar sales managers.   It is actually fairly rare that we find superstar salespeople who make superstar sales managers.  I found it once recently, and wrote this  case study about it.

Further the newly anointed sales manager probably just mimics what he has seen, not knowing any better.  And, what he had been exposed to was probably a bad sales manager possessing ineffective coaching skills.  So are there any crossover skills between sales managers and salespeople?  Where are our sales managers supposed to come from if not from the sales ranks?

September Tip

Recording a Customer Refund By Credit Card

The SedonaOffice software application provides the functionality to document a credit card refund processed independently through Forte for a customer that has an unapplied credit memo, unapplied cash or an unapplied advance deposit on their account. The refund may be created for the entire unapplied amount available or a partial amount. The process of generating the refund clears the refund amount from the customer's accounts receivable balance and adds a check to the accounts payable check printing queue.  To document the refund being made by a credit card instead of a check issuance:

  1. Highlight the credit memo, unapplied cash, or advance deposit.
  2. Right-click and select Apply.
  3. Go to the Other tab.
  4. Select Refund Check.  Enter either the full or partial amount of the credit to be refunded.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Go to Accounts Payable Print Checks.
  7. Double click on the check to open it.
  8. Remove the checkmark from the box "In Print Queue"
  9. Type "Refund by CC" or similar wording in the check number field.
  10. Click Save.

What do you like best about your job?

The sense of creation.  While supporting an existing product is a necessary part of the job, creating new programs is where the fun is as a developer.

Word to our customers:

The #10 Standard Envelope only defines the exterior and enclosure size of the envelope. There is no standard window placement which is why we have five variants of the Bridgestone Standard invoice form each designed for a different vendor specific window placement.
