Newsletter June 2013

'Our business is about technology, yes. But it's also about operations and customer relationships.' - Michael Dell

Every day we work diligently to improve our software to meet the growing needs of our customers. After listening to your feedback, we want to be more intentional with our customer relationships and will be initiating a few activities, including this newsletter, to enhance communications. Here is what we are rolling out:

SedonaOffice Newsletter - a monthly publication that will provide updates on development items, a customer overview, relevant management issues, tips and tricks and case studies.

SedonaOffice.com - If you have not already done so please go to our newly redesigned website. We've enhanced it with more information and useful training and reference documents.

SedonaSync Community - launched at the end of May, SedonaSync users can now submit and download event packs, providing an exchange of ideas and uses. For more information contact  Rebecca Hall.

SedonaInstruct - an opportunity for users to learn a little bit more about SedonaOffice's functionality through a series of one hour webinars. Participate from your own desk. Topics and dates to be announced in the next couple of months.

The above items will also provide opportunities for you to learn about what we are doing and how you can more effectively use SedonaOffice and take advantage of its features.   We are open to your suggestions, if there is something you would like to see in these areas let us know.

Thank you for encouraging us to do more. We want you to know that our relationship with you is our #1 priority and we strive to meet your expectations each and everyday.

OVERVIEW

Security Central is a traditional full-service, alarm company with their own UL central station. In their second generation of family ownership, Security Central has grown over the years by providing local, personalized service to our Colorado customers.  In their own words, 'Nothing sexy, just good ol' fashioned service.'

OF NOTE

On May 4th Security Central hosted their annual Customer Appreciation Day where they securely shredded almost 20,000 pounds of personal documents for customers, recycled over 15,000 pounds of their old electronics, and collected 2,000 pounds of canned food from them for the Denver Rescue Mission (a faith-based homeless shelter and rehab program). denverrescuemission.org

Get Your Most Important Questions Answered with Financial Statements

The most common financial statements used across all industries are the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement. They are created from data that resides in your general ledger, and while the basic structure of these statements transcends industries, the security business has unique characteristics that require more than your basic "mom-and-pop" financial statements. Your general ledger system must be designed to accommodate your uniqueness so that your financial statements can provide the information you need to run your business.

Security companies install new systems and offer on-going services, such as monitoring and extended warranty. Financial statements can answer questions about the effectiveness of these activities, including what your margins are on installations and service, or, what your fixed overhead expenses are for each of your departments. You might also want to know if you need long-term financing to support your installation and RMR creation programs, or if you're improving month over month and year over year.

The questions go on and on, and professionally-constructed financial statements are the key to getting your most important questions answered.

For assistance with constructing your financial statements to answer your questions contact Jim Lee - President, Astute Financial at (970) 223-2382 or jim@astutefinancial.biz

Tips & Tricks

Create Cycle Invoice Now

You have the ability to create the next RMR invoice at any time for a single customer. You can simply right click on the Recurring tree option, or on a recurring line in the list.

Using the Tool Bar to Open Up a Customer

One of the often forgotten shortcuts in SedonaOffice is the ability to quickly open up a customer record while performing another function for that customer. Look for the customer tree button active in many places while working with customers and client management.

Bates Security in the News
Bates Security Manages Quick Growth With a Little Help From Its Friends

When a security dealer manages to grow its recurring monthly revenue (RMR) by 63 percent in three years, its competitors want to know how. When that three-year period takes place in the middle of a recession, the whole industry should take notice. Bates Security, Lexington, Ky., has made a steady climb on the SDM 100, a ranking by RMR of the top 100 security companies, starting as No. 99 in 2009, and landing at No. 80 in 2012, reporting more than $280,000 in RMR and nearly 5,000 commercial and residential subscriber accounts. The company won last year's Sammy's 2012 Installer of the Year and is the top selling dealership on the Sonitrol side of the business.
