Much like the popular phrase in the real estate profession, "location, location, location", the phrase of the cleaning profession must be "performance, performance, performance".
Detergents need to work quickly and clean well. Today, detergents that are green, sustainable, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly can also achieve marvelous results. The challenge is to secure a vendor who can deliver as described.
Bottom Line: A product must perform with excellence AND meet green standards.
In today's marketplace, customers are pressuring vendors to cut product costs. Unfortunately, that has led to using lower quality raw materials or "watering down" the product. Therefore, it is important to know how much a detergent costs at the point-of-use in addition to only knowing the cost of a container (gallon, liter, etc.).

The mark of a top cleaning supplies vendor is their education, training, and support programs. A vendor commitment to customer achievement is far more than having a sales person direct a customer on how to mix a chemical. Too often, the focus is on the next sale instead of making sure that custodians understand the basics of their profession in keeping with a well-designed housekeeping program.
Ask yourself the following questions:
1. How well do my cleaning products perform?
2. What is the cost per gallon of mixed cleaning solution? (See Calculator Link Above)
3. How complete is my vendor's education & training program?
4. How well does my vendor's technical support group solve problems?
If you are not 100% pleased with the answers to any of the above questions, it will benefit you to re-evaluate your custodial vendor relations. It is in your best interest to find a vendor that provides products and support that will allow your team to achieve the best results ever at less than your current cost.
