THE CHILDREN'S HOME

One of the most pleasant, and yet challenging, articles I write each year is the article on the United Methodist Children's Home. Our ministry with, to,
and through the children and families at the Home is one of the most significant ministries that we offer as a church and as the body of Christ.
The Children's Home in Decatur is almost 150 years old. For that long the United Methodists in North Georgia have been offering care for first orphans, and more lately for all sorts of family needs for those who might otherwise slip through the cracks of other care networks.
From the Home's brochure: When you support the Children's Home, you're putting food on the table in front of youth who may never have had someone who cared enough-or was able enough-to provide a healthy, nutritious meal for them. You're putting clothes on the backs of youth who may never have known the excitement of first-day-of-school shopping or picking out a prom dress. When you give, you're helping to provide for the healing therapy and spiritual nourishment for youth who so desperately need someone to care. You're providing a home for families in our short-term housing program who just needed a safe place to stay to get back on their feet. You're helping a child in our foster care program find a family who will love her as is she were their own child, and you're helping an older youth get a start at independence, all the while knowing he has support behind him.
You have a great history in supporting the Children's Home. Few United
Methodist congregations give more than we give, and I ask you to join Bobbi and me in making a gift beyond your pledge to the Children's Home this week. You can make a difference.
And I'll see you this Sunday.
