THESE FEW THINGS

First, know that Elaine Wilder (year seven), Brian Smith (year three), Lori Ethridge (year two) and I (year fourteen) are delighted to be reappointed to this marvelous church for another year. We enjoy working together and we delight in our work with you. As the ritual suggests in worship, keep us in your prayers as we keep you in ours. This promises to be a great year for our church.
Second, I hope you will be present on July 3 for our annual Patriotic Service. We ask that all members who have served or are serving in the military gather in the narthex before worship to be part of the procession that morning. As the hymns of the various branches are played, we ask that you step out or raise your hand that we might offer our appreciation to you. Our guest speakers that morning are two of our members: Vic Reynolds, Cobb County District Attorney, and Allison Salter, State Court Judge-elect.
Third, the Board of Trustees has decided to place off-duty policemen at the church on Sunday mornings and perhaps at other large gatherings of our members. This action is not in reaction to any particular event or specific action here. However, professionals in the business remind us that churches are often "soft targets" of those who would do harm and our Trustees are acting in accordance with other churches in our area. The decision by the Trustees will be reviewed and discussed at the next meeting of the Church Council.
I hope you are enjoying your summer and have planned some time away. Remember, however, that "most of us are in town most of the time" during the summer and your church never takes a day off.
And I'll see you this Sunday.
