REFRESHED

Since I live in the parsonage that is two doors down from the church, I am able to walk to work almost every morning. However, I must admit to you that when it is pouring down rain or the temperature gets down into the low teens, you might catch me driving to the church. Now that spring has arrived in full bloom, I anticipated that my walks to work would be rather enjoyable.

However, last week as I was walking up to the church, I watched a truck barrel down Whitlock Avenue with a swelling cloud of pollen in tow. There was nowhere for me to run or hide from this yellow cloud of allergy-inducing dust; all I could do was hold my breath and close my eyes. Once the truck had passed and I exhaled, I realized that I was no longer wearing a white dress shirt, but one with a distinct yellow hue. Even though I had showered just thirty minutes earlier, all I
wanted to do was go home, clean myself off and be refreshed.

Since then I have been thinking about some of the places that we go to when we find ourselves needing to be refreshed spiritually.

The first place that comes to mind is worship. When we gather together for worship in the sanctuary, we sense the presence of God in our midst through song, word and prayer. Not only do we sense the presence of God, but we also are able to sense the grace and the love of God that is extended to us. When we walk into the sanctuary we can take a deep breath knowing that God is meeting us in this place.

Second, we are refreshed spiritually when we spend time in community with one another. As we live our lives together as disciples of Jesus Christ we discover salvation, healing, forgiveness, call, mission and discipleship.

Finally, we can find our spirits refreshed when we spend time in prayer. Whether we use a devotional, a prayer book or we craft our own prayers to God, we can be sure that God's attentive ear is always listening. Through prayer, our spirits are drawn closer God, and we can sense the peace of God. I pray that during this Easter season that your spirit will be refreshed through
worship, community and prayer.

    I'll see you this Sunday,
