OUR PLACE
PLACE is a sacred component of our Christian faith. We know that human life began in the corner of the Fertile Crescent between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Moses tended sheep in Midian, modern Iran, and David did the same in the hills outside Bethlehem. Jeremiah bought an acre of ground in nearby Anathoth as the Babylonian army besieged Jerusalem. Jesus learned carpentry in Nazareth and raised Lazarus from the dead in Bethany. St. Paul was converted on the road to Damascus and a traveler between Jerusalem and Jericho was attacked by thieves and cared for by the Good Samaritan. Many of us remember our first church, a favorite Sunday School classroom, and the grounds where the Easter eggs were hidden. PLACE is sacred to us.
The church's Board of Trustees is the group most responsible for our PLACE. This group is responsible for maintaining the physical facility and the task is an enormous one, especially considering that our PLACE is over fifty years old!
So the Board and Church Council are putting before us the opportunity to Restore To Glory! our marvelous PLACE. There is a long list of projects including sprucing up of the sanctuary and the Family Life Hall. There is also extensive work in our heating and air conditioning systems that we will never see, but will feel every single Sunday. An outline of the program is on the website and the Board has set three "town hall" type meetings where we can give input and hear some of the details. Two are this Sunday (10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Family Life Hall) and one will be next Wednesday in the same place at 6:30 p.m.
Of course funding of the project is paramount and now the Board turns to the church. Some of us can help immediately with a significant gift, others of us will need to spread our gift over time. We are launching a three-year pledge campaign and ask that every family in the church participate. You will receive a letter with a commitment card, or you can make your commitment online. This commitment, of course, is above and beyond what we are giving now. Our Celebration Sunday is April 6. We will receive commitment cards during worship, then continue the celebration with a church-provided lunch. Our special visitors will be the Whitlock Ramblers.
Please plan to attend one of the "town hall" meetings to ask questions and offer input. And join Bobbi and me in making a commitment to Restore To Glory!
I'll see you this Sunday.
