 Green Caps/Nitrogen?
Rear Light Chrome?
Rear Drainage - A cautionary tale
QUESTION
Hi just wondering about this...on memory Fig has I think at least 3 visible green caps on quite a long valve. Am I right in this being a nitrogen filled tyre, I have read tyre forums on this and there does seem to be a bit of a debate whether nitrogen is a better alternative generally, but is it ok for a Fig? Also what if I have a mix of Nitrogen and air - shouldn't ideally all four be filled with same? Also I'm not to keen on the valve sticking out so much, or the quite obvious green cap actually. If wanted a shorter stem would that mean taking tyre off? If you told me it was cool to have long sticky out stems with fluorescent green caps on then I'd be all for it ;) Also (from memory) 3 of the tyres are 165 70R12 77S though one is 165 70R12 77T - is that ok? You cant really tell how much it sticks out here but am assuming that green cap means Nitrogen? (Tyre looks a bit bent is just horizon of backdrop)

ANSWER
I'm not sure that you have got nitrogen, I think these are just pressure reading caps. They should unscrew. You don't need to tale the wheel off to access them if the stalks are short, you just need to remove the while Polo. If you want to change the length of the stem, this has to be carried out at a tyre place. It is important that all the pressures are the same. I wouldn't mix but normal air is fine for Figs I don't think it warrants the use on a normal car. Tyres should all be the same The S and T is the speed rating, as the one is a T it's higher so should be fine. Code MPH KPH S 112 180 T 118 190

QUESTION
I have owned my Figaro for a week now and this is my first posting! I notice that the chrome on all the rear lights has corroded at the bottom of the chrome surround, where rain water can puddle and therefore with time will be prone to rust. Can the chrome surround be replaced separately from the rear light? Are there any favoured suppliers?

ANSWER
If The Post by Simon on May 17, 2013 at 2:58pm Looking at the Nissan DB is it part of the light. I have see Figs with small foil like stuck at the bottom. Also saw someone has said they had rubbed down and resprayed the surround. This is a common issue, you may be lucky and get a good used one as a replacement. QUESTION
Like a good boy I regularly check the six drains are clear and emptying on the drive. I was washing and tidying the car today in preparation for next week's show. My fig is parked under an ornamental tree that has just blossomed and so the car is showed with debris. I have been keeping an eye on the boot gutters as the stuff gets washed round and lodges in the top holes. Today I noticed the holes were covered in water, so clearly blocked. Surplus water was blotted away and I used a plastic straw (with a blob of bluetack to make a seal) and blew threw. Water flowed from the bottom of the car. Repeated on the other side, then flushed through both with water. Job done. As I walked away I thought it was strange that I heard the tube clearing from the direction of the boot, not outside from the bottom of the car. I opened the lower boot and felt through the void to the rear wheel arch. OMG, water! The drain tube wasn't located in the bottom grommet and was filling the void instead. I hadn't noticed because water filled the void then found it's way through the grommet to the drive, so outwardly all seemed tickety-boo. Then followed a blotting and cleaning session to get each void as clean and dry as I could (awkward, really need to have small hands and be double-jointed) then I left the hair dryer on lowest setting blowing in each void to remove the last vestige of moisture. Then each pipe was relocated back in the grommet. I have no idea how this came about, on both sides too, but luckily there was no rusting that I could see so hopefully no harm done. But this is a cautionary tale - don't assume just because a drainage test shows water flowing from the bottom drainage grommet that all is well! Pop open the bottom boot and have a feel in the arch voids and ask yourself two questions: Is it clean and dry in there? Is the hose correctly sitting in the grommet? I could just manoeuvre a smartphone in there - very useful to verify the condition as you certainly can't get your head in there and take a look!

ANSWER
Looking at your first 2 pics it looks as though the metal bit that is meant to stick out of the drainage hole for the top boot plastic has snapped off from the plastic and is stuck in the drain pipe. You can as a temporary measure reseat it in the hole in the top boot tray and keep it in place with some silicone. In your last two pics it looks as though the pipe has only detached from the clip. You can squeeze the tabs on the clip with some pliers to make the hole on the clip bigger and oust the end of the pipe back on to it. Do the same thin to the clip to reattach it to the boot drain hole. Chomley I found I had the same problem with my drain pipes not being in the holes at the bottom. I have made it a regular thing to check all my drains and their connections.

ABOUT THE CLUB

Our Mission Statement
"To provide comprehensive advice and information to both present and future owners (in addition to having lots of fun in the process) and to ensure these wonderful cars and their providence is preserved for the next generation of owners"

So how did the club start?
My son 'Daniel' had always wanted a Figaro having seen the car at our local garage when he was just 16. After saving for a number of years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he at last brought an emerald green model in May 2008. Following the purchase we searched on the internet for a club in the hope we could attend events with other owners but were amazed that no club existed... So the Figaro Owners Club was born!
We decided to build a website and forum which took 6 months and on the 1st March 2009 we pressed the publish button and waited to see if anyone wanted to join? Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478. Today the club has almost 1,600 members worldwide and our website is used by over 45 countries!

Thanks to all our supporters and members for their support.

Warmest Regards
