Hi
Welcome to our February Newsletter. At last the nights are starting to get lighter and yesterday it actually felt warm. Sue and I cannot wait to get out in our Figaro this year and with so many events to attend we decided to give our club car some much needed attention. So last month she spent a couple of weeks at The Figaro Shop. The first part of the work is covered below and involved having the dash recovered. When they quoted us £332 we thought it was a tad expensive, but having now received the 112 pictures from Toby taken during the job it seems a bargain! The dash now looks superb and they say it will never suffer from cracking again. Top job!

22nd 'Birthday Run' to Shoreham Airport - Sunday 17th February
London & Surrey Figaros annual run to the coast is on! This is just what we need. An excuse to get our cars out and start driving them after such a long winter. We plan to meet at the coffee shop in the car park, opposite the Tattenham Corner pub on Epsom Downs, Sunday 17th February at 10.00. We will then drive down the A24 to Shoreham Airport for lunch. Meeting up with more Figaros at Bucks Barn Services, south of Horsham on the A24 at 11.30. We will then have a lovely cruise down to Shoreham Airport for a spot of Lunch and Photos. Then a convoy along the seafront to Brighton. REGISTER HERE

Lastly on not such a happy note our cars continue to be the target of thieves in parts of the UK. Manchester and London have seen higher than normal thefts of Figaros. Now is the time to ensure you have the right insurance cover and in this newsletter we have highlighted the importance of 'agreed value'. Read more below.

VIDEO GUIDES

Those of you who watch "Top Gear" or other motoring shows on Dave, may have seen the Halfords "internet video" adverts that precede these programmes? Well, one of these was about how NOT to change your wiper blades and so we thought we would show you how it is done properly!

We will also explain how to examine your blades to see if they need changing and we also recommend that you buy decent blades that last longer - especially with the winter weather we are about to experience across the UK...

Our 2 minute Figgy wiper blade training course will teach you all you need to know!

Over the past few months there's been a lot of discussion on our forum about Insurance and specifically the increasing cost of insuring the Figaro. Although we recommend Classicline Insurance (our preferred provider) we always urge members to get a few additional quotations so they can compare prices. However we would like to point out that some lower prices may seem very attractive at a first glance but you may not be comparing apples with apples!

3 GOLDEN RULES TO INSURANCE

  • Ensure that the policy for your Figaro includes an 'Agreed Value'. This is the exact value you will receive if your car is written off or stolen. The Nissan Figaro is a very expensive car to repair as many parts are specialist and rare so it can become write-off more easily than a Ford Fiesta!

Note - Most mainstream policies provide 'Market Value" that is only what the insurers engineer can get away with to save the insurer money upon a total loss. If you have this type of policy we can promise you that you will need to fight for the value of what you think your car is worth against what the insurer think its worth. This can be very stressful and involve you in providing proof of equivalent car values. An Agreed Value means exactly that. If your car is valued at £8,000 and stolen you well get a Cheque for £8,000 no questions asked!

  • Take pictures of your car and keep them safe. If your car gets stolen you will need them to help find it and they are vet useful when claiming for loss as they can prove the value of the car.

  • Make a note and ensure that you will not exceed any 'annual mileage limitations' stated in the policy as this could be used to reject claims.

MORE ABOUT AGREED VALUES

Most Specialist Car Insurance companies will require you to provide an 'agreed valuation'. This can usually be provided by the insurance company for an additional cost or by us.

Black plastic sealent under chrome strip
How frequently should I change the oil?
First MOT
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I've just had some paintwork done on the fig and its looking rather smashing, but the black plastic trim that goes under the chrome trim pieces along the tops of the wings and doors is brittle and old and generally falling apart. I've thought about using black silicone sealant to patch them up but I would prefer not to. has anybody managed to source new replacements? Suspect 2nd hand ones would be just as bad.

I believe the advice in the past has been to use black silicone but maybe someone will have a better solution. Caz
I have had my Fig for 6 months now and am a little confused about how frequently I should change the oil. Should it be every 6 months or annually (6000 miles) at its service. I use it for commuting mainly so low mileage but there is a lot of stop/start driving over the hills of Sheffield.

You could have called me, & it's in the instruction leaflet! The little engine has to work very hard, & the oilways are so tiny that any small particles of wear can easily block them & harm the engine through lack of lubrication & also cooling. For the price of 5 litres of good quality 5w-30 semi synthetic oil (about £25 or less) it's well worth changing it every 6 months, & the filter every 12 months. Your engine will last longer! Cheers Barrie

I only got Bunty last year and this is the first MOT. I live in Edinburgh and the nearest rec garage on this site is over 100 miles away in Newcastle. Can anyone rec a garage more local or can I just take her to a normal garage and hope they will smile at all her little Fig ways?

The MOT check the same items on any car, & any MOT garage will do the job. If the fig fails on any of the MOT checks the garage should have no trouble in the necessary repairs. If they need any parts & are not sure where tosource them from they can check with the recommended Fig garage. Baz

About the people behind the Figaro Owners Club
MY CARMy son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro and after saving for years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he brought an Emerald Green one in May 2008. That was it - I was hooked too! Even now we spend many a happy weekend polishing her in the garage.

We just love all that chrome... After buying the car we started searching the internet for ownership help and advice and although a forum existed there was no real club so in December 2008 we started designing and building the web site which took around 4 Months. The club was formed in February 2009 and launched on 1st March 2009

Warmest Regards
