Showcase Preparations

Showcase preparations are getting into full swing now that we are on just 2 months away from the performance. There's much excitement and enthusiasm in the studio as students learn their Showcase choreography. Classes and dancers have begun exploring Don Quixote. Dancers are learning the story, its key elements and music by Minkus. Dancers are rehearsing with fans, castanets and tambourines. The artistic staff have composed creative elements in the Classic Ballet that all are sure to enjoy.

Help Us Maintain the Learning Environment

NBB prides itself in being a school and not just a dance studio. We expect to educate your dancer in the art of dance and in the social graces needed to function in a group. The time and energy that NBB puts into providing professional dance education is maximized when families follow school policies for dress code, hair, make-up and jewelry. We are grateful to and appreciate the majority of families that value the education we are providing and follow school policies to maximize the learning. Starting this coming week, dancers that are not prepared for class will receive a note card detailing what needs to be done to conform to school policies. This could be as simple as fixing their hair, purchasing tights (we have tights from Sue's Dance Boutique at the studio) or there may need to be a trip to Sue's Dance Boutique.

Parents observing class from the observation window should move to the reception area to hold conversations. Conversations in the observation area can be distracting to both the dancers and other parents.

Ballet Shoes Must Be Soft Leather

Dancers with new shoes need to have them approved by Miss Laura before wearing them to class. Some of the shoes coming into the studio on dancers feet are too stiff and do not allow the dancer to use and develop the foot correctly. So Danca has made an imitation leather shoe that has been bought by some of the families. So Danca ballet shoes need to be style number BA14 to insure the genuine soft leather shoe with a very soft sole. Brand name shoes are selling cheaper quality shoes, so before you buy them, check for very soft leather and soft sole. The shoe should be soft like a leather sock, rather than a shoe. Please remember that the shoes do not run true to size and it is always better to have the shoes fitted before purchasing them. Shoes too big dig into the dancers heals and hurt. When Miss Laura releases the draw string to ease up on the heal, the shoe becomes too big.

Showcase is just a few weeks away and you want your dancer to look their best while dancing. Poorly fitted shoes, shoes with too hard of sole or leather hinder the dancer's ability to do their best.

Label Everything

Several leotards, skirts and shoes have been mixed up, left behind or taken by accident. Labeling all your dancer's apparel with their name will help avoid some of these mix-ups and help us return items to their rightful owner.

Spring Showcase

Mister Bob is busy building props while the artistic staff has selected music and choreography to showcase the dancers' talents. They are creating wonderful and unique pieces for Showcase. The majority of classes have begun learning the new combinations, steps, and variations to be performed at Grover C Fields on June 14th. Showcase is in ten short weeks, so please make every effort to attend all classes so dancers will perform their best at Showcase!

Showcase Information on NBB's Website

Showcase is a big undertaking with lots of work and coordination needed ahead of time to ensure a wonderful experience for your dancer and an enjoyable event for the whole family. As information becomes available it will be added to the Spring Showcase page of our website.

Parent Help Preparing for Showcase

Parents are now needed to put together costumes, table decorations and props. Donated items for table decorations and props are always welcome. Also, parents will soon be contacted to start organizing the various volunteer efforts that are needed the day of Showcase.

Showcase Tickets

Each family participating in Showcase will get four tickets for the performance (dancers do not need tickets). Additional tickets for extended family and friends are $7.50/each and all sales are final; no refunds, exchanges or replacements. Simply leave a note and payment in the tuition box, be sure to include your name and the number of tickets. Tickets will be distributed the middle of May.

Photo Opportunities

NBB & Dove Imaging are coordinating photographs for each class and dancer. Photos will be taken during class time for the majority of students. A detailed schedule will be distributed in class and placed on the web.  Due to the photography equipment, no other cameras or cell phones will be allowed into the studio while pictures are being taken. Dove Imaging will provide package orders. More information will be available soon.

Participation Fee

The $45 participation fee is due with your May tuition. This is different than previous years as Showcase is in June rather than May this year.

NBBCo

NBBCo plans to perform Carnival of the Animals: Daydreamer at Union Pointe Park as part of the New Bern Parks & Recreation Festival of Fun, and is scheduled for April 12th, 2014. The outdoor venue gives the dancers an added touch to draw viewers into the Daydreamer's wonderful adventure. NBBCo will also be presenting Sundances, which was first performed at the Festival of NC Dance in February. All are invited to be delighted as the narrated story comes to life on stage. Performances are 10:00 and 11:15.
