Remy the Raptor

At the spring pep rally May 13, a contest was held to see who would be the new Raptor mascot, "Remy the Raptor".  After a fierce competition, freshman Nicholas Wetzel won with thunderous applause.  He will be in the raptor costume for the 2016-2017 sports season.

During the competition, the costume was enthusiastically hugged, resulting in the loss of an arm.  If any Raptor parent can sew and would like to volunteer to re-attach Remy's Raptor arm/wing, please contact Ms. Metzner-Roop at [email protected].  Thank you!

Congratulations to the many Raptors who participated in the Clemson National Biology Merit Exam!

Raptor winners include:
Second Place: Razeen Basunia

Honorable Mention:  Abby Keating, Tommy Crookes, Emma Louise Farmer, Julian Gatch, Maddie Stephens

Second Honorable Mention: Sullivan Lant, Devin Narula, Janie O'Shea, Anne Claire Purcell, Steven Schlosser, James Staubes, Pauline Wang

AMHS Students Receive French Awards

Each year the American Association of Teachers of French acknowledges one worthy candidate nominated from each high school. The 2016 Outstanding Senior Award was presented to Matthew Frances Leadem. While a student at the Magnet, Matthew earned a 5 on the AP French Language and Culture Exam, completed 2 semesters of college level French, and 4 semesters of college level Chinese. He also chose to examine the role of personality in learning a Foreign Language as his Senior Thesis project. We salute you, Mathieu, and are reminded of the African proverb:

 Un homme qui parle une langue vaut un homme; un homme qui parle deux langues vaut deux hommes; un homme qui en parle trois vaut toute l'humanit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In March 2016, our students once again participated in the National French Contest. The results highlighted student achievement at the national level. The students were honored at our recent Awards Ceremony with a medal.   Flicitations!
Community Service Opportunities
Soldier's Angels -- Ongoing
Soldier's Angels is a national charity which provides aid and comfort to those who have served in our armed forces and their families.  Our organization offers many volunteer opportunities that allow thousands of volunteers to work tirelessly and assist veterans in a variety of exclusive and effective ways.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to work with our veterans within the Ralph A. Johnson Center as Patient Visitors. Our Patient Visitors will provide support to veterans within the hospital through approved visitations and distribution of donated materials. We will work with your students to establish a schedule that allows them to visit the hospital for only a few hours each week, or during one of the special events we will be hosting this year. Students will be responsible for maintaining a log of their hours.
Soldier's Angels is the only post-9/11 charity that is able to serve within veterans hospitals in this capacity. Please view our website at http://soldiersangels.org/, and the linked presentation entitled "Veteran Support Programs".
For more information, contact Lorena Jordan at  [email protected] .
