AMHS Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
May 16th - May 20th

We need your help!

AMHS PIE will be sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Week NEXT WEEK and we need your help to make it successful!  We need gift cards no later than Monday, May 16th for a teacher give away.  Please place gift cards in an envelope labeled "Teacher Appreciation" and turn in to the school office. We hope that each family can send in one $10 or $20 gift card to a place that they frequent or enjoy.  Anything from your favorite restaurant, yogurt shop, coffee shop, movie theater, gift shop, etc.  Anything that is FUN for you will be enjoyed by one of our teachers!  You are always welcome to add a little note to the card to say thanks and who the donor is.

Our teachers and staff work so hard for our students - please help us show them our appreciation.  If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Winters at [email protected].

AMHS Night at the Riverdogs - May 20

Please join PIE for a fun filled evening at the RiverDogs game on Friday, May 20th at Joe Riley Stadium.  The fun will begin outside the gates where our own AMHS Dirty Birds will be performing.

Gates open at 6:00 with game time at 7:05.  Group tickets can be purchased for $8 through the group portal at  http://cr1.glitnirticketing.com/crticket/web/gpcaptcha.php. Use the password AMHS16.  Stick around after the game for the Fireworks display when our Seniors will be out on the field.  Hope to see you all at the ball game!  (Seniors do not need to purchase advance tickets.  They should listen for school announcements on how to sign up for their game tickets.)

AP Chemistry Project - Donations Needed

Each year after the AP Chemistry Exam I have my students work on a project of their choice and this year they have expressed interest in creating an 'outdoor' classroom underneath the 'old-oak tree' here on campus. (Typically we choose a chemistry related project to do in the lab but this group really wants to build something!)

Thank you to everyone who has already donated!  If you haven't yet, we are still seeking donations of Lowe's or Home Depot gift cards so we may purchase materials to construct  benches, protective posts, a white-board, etc. for this outdoor classroom!  We hope to start construction this coming Monday, and we could really use your support. Gift cards can be sent to school to the attention of Murray Eicher.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Murray Eicher

PIE hosts several events throughout the year such as Open House, the International Dinner, A/B Honor Roll Celebrations, Teacher Appreciation events and many more. PIE also provides refreshments for faculty meetings,
college awareness nights, Senior Celebration and other events throughout the year.

Each of these need interested parents to help make them happen!

PIE (Partners in Education) is a vibrant, engaged parent organization. Most of us work "regular jobs" as well as filling our volunteer roles for Magnet.  Board meetings are held monthly, the dates and times of which will be determined by the incoming Board.

We are in the process of gathering volunteers to help with next year's activities.  PIE's Executive Board (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a Member-at-Large) will be elected in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in a "smaller" role, we are also looking for committee chairpersons to help coordinate PIE's various activities, including Hospitality and Teacher Meetings, Staff Appreciation, Office Volunteers,  International Dinner, Auction/Gala, Student Volunteer Opportunities, Grocery Store Partnerships, and more.

Please consider joining PIE in helping to support our wonderful school!  Submit your nominations/suggestions (Yes, you can nominate yourself!) to Anne Walpole (PIE Secretary, and Nominating Committee Chair) at [email protected] . If you have ANY questions about any of the positions, please contact Kelly Yost at [email protected] .

The AMHS Athletic Booster Club is seeking your support!

We have unfilled Board and Event Chairs positions for next year.

If these positions cannot be filled the services and support provided to our student athletes will be affected and reduced.
Please consider joining the team and allow us to continue with the level of the support this organization provides.

Soldier's Angels -- Ongoing

Soldier's Angels is a national charity which provides aid and comfort to those who have served in our armed forces and their families.  Our organization offers many volunteer opportunities that allow thousands of volunteers to work tirelessly and assist veterans in a variety of exclusive and effective ways.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to work with our veterans within the Ralph A. Johnson Center as Patient Visitors. Our Patient Visitors will provide support to veterans within the hospital through approved visitations and distribution of donated materials. We will work with your students to establish a schedule that allows them to visit the hospital for only a few hours each week, or during one of the special events we will be hosting this year. Students will be responsible for maintaining a log of their hours.

Soldier's Angels is the only post-9/11 charity that is able to serve within veterans hospitals in this capacity. Please view our website at http://soldiersangels.org/, and the linked presentation entitled "Veteran Support Programs".

For more information, contact Lorena Jordan at  [email protected] .
