Junior Parent Night and Financial Aid Awareness
Junior parents mark your calendars now for January 21st! You won't want to miss this informative evening about navigating the college application process,
PSAT scores and financial aid.
The evening will start at 5:30 and our guidance team, Ms. Ware and Ms. Taylor, will discuss how to best use Naviance as a tool for college/career planning, provide a brief overview of the college admissions process, and share some pertinent information on PSAT results.
In addition, Ericka Harrison-Jones, Financial Aid Counselor/Office Operations Manager, from College of Charleston, will speak to the group about the financial aid process starting at 6:15.
It is an informative evening you won't want to miss!
Please Note: The College Board will not have released the individual PSAT score reports to the school, but parents/students who have a College Board account can access those scores as of January 7th. The guidance team encourages parents to bring those scores with them to the evening to refer to during the discussion. Ongoing
Reading Partners is dedicated to unlocking the skills of students who struggle with reading. We provide one-on-one reading instruction to elementary school students reading below grade level to help them succeed in school and in life. Reading is the foundation for future learning. In order to learn, students must be able to read. Without reading, kids don't have an equitable chance at success. We believe that regardless of their environment, given the right support and resources, all kids can learn to read.
A national 501(c)3 nonprofit, we partner with under-resourced schools and engage volunteer reading partners (community tutors) to help students who struggle with reading unlock and develop the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
An evidence-based and community-driven organization, we recruit and train volunteers to work one-on-one with students for 45 minutes twice a week, following a structured, research-based curriculum. East Cooper Community Outreach 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466 Volunteers aged 14 - 18 are needed for food warehouse, property clean up and clothing warehouse. All prospective volunteers will receive an orientation to ECCO and its mission prior to their acceptance as volunteers. Orientation sessions will occur monthly and last approximately one hour and will be offered the first Tuesday of every month at 11am. Contact Rachel Vane (rvane@eccocharleston.org, (843) 416-7111) for details.
Meeting Street Academy 642 Meeting St, Charleston, SC 29403
We are seeking high school students to come assist the teachers in the classroom, read books to the student, help monitor the playground, engage in whatever activity the teacher has planned, and to even help plan some activities they would be interested in doing with the students. We offer extended day every day after school except on PD, Holidays, or Breaks.
Ongoing and flexible times to participate - Students may sign up for just one day a week or several days a week. Also, students may sign up for one hour or the whole extended day time (3:30 PM - 5:30 PM). Please contact Siobhan Ragan, sragan@meetingstreetschools.org, for more information or to volunteer.
Fields to Families www.fieldstofamilies.org
