School News

"Thanks4Giving" Fundraiser
Show your thanks for your school and feed our needs! Let us model the first Thanksgiving and come together as an AMHS family to build a brighter future.

Hopefully, by now, you have received a mailing from AMHS PIE LOGOPartners in Education (PIE) and the Academic Magnet  Foundation (AMF) explaining in detail our "Thanks4Giving" fundraiser. (If not, click here for a copy.) Excellent education is something we expect in our community, but we cannot count on public funding to provide the level of support that our school needs.  Many of the programs offered at AMHS are not funded by the district.  In order to continue these programs and strive for excellence in all areas, we rely on your support!

Join the harvest by donating online https://amhspe.ejoinme.org/thanks4giving or send a check payable to AMHS PIE using this donation form . Thanks4Giving!

Community Service Opportunities

November 8 - MDA Muscle Walk

Please help support one of our own and the Muscular Dystrophy Association at the MDA Muscle Walk at the RiverDogs stadium on Sunday, November 8th from 11am-2pm.

Caleb Sizemore, an Academic Magnet 2015 graduate, has organized a Muscle Walk team to help raise funds for MDA research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (the disease which affects him) and to raise awareness of the impact of neuromuscular diseases on so many individuals and families. Please come join Caleb, friends, family, and dozens of other teams in the non-competitive walk around the stadium to support those with muscle diseases.

MDA is a voluntary health agency that funds cutting-edge neuromuscular disease research; ensures that all Americans affected by these diseases receive treatment and critical care; and serves as a voice for families with neuromuscular diseases. MDA has built the nation's only neuromuscular clinic network, with over 200 MDA clinics, which provides expert treatment for those with neuromuscular diseases. MDA also provides free summer camps designed specifically for kids with muscle diseases.

Academic Magnet has raised almost $1,700 for the Caleb's Muscle Walk team this year, and the total raised so far this year for Caleb's team is $6,300. Those funds are designated for research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy cures and treatments. You can donate to his team at this link:  Caleb's Cure.

Please join us at the Muscle Walk! Just show up at the stadium at 11a.m. on Sunday, Nov 8th, and we will do the quick registration stuff, and you will join up with Caleb and his team and participate in the walk around and in the stadium. Lunch and lots of other fun activities are included. Help us to Make a Muscle and Make a Difference.

November 13-14

love to see you running, walking or shucking oysters with us!  Also feel free to share this information with friends who may want to volunteer or participate!

Ongoing

South Carolina Competes is geared primarily toward providing educational opportunities for students across the socioeconomic spectrum.  We have two major initiatives, and will be starting at least one more in the coming weeks.  These initiatives allow students to choose to either volunteer in a continuing project, or to volunteer for various one-time events.

Our FARE Play (Fantasy Athletics Real Education) initiative is a fantasy sport league where student volunteer mentors engage middle and elementary students in mathematics tutoring through sports statistics.

Our ACE (Athletes' Cooperative Education) initiative creates volunteer opportunities for student athletes from differing socioeconomic backgrounds to work together and engage in conversations about their differing perspectives.

For more information on South Carolina Competes, please contact them at sccompetes@gmail.com .
