THE RAPTOR REPORT
Principal Points: May

judith Congratulations, AMHS Community! Once again Academic Magnet High School has been nationally ranked by US News and World Report. This year we are #7!

Thank you, teachers, students, parents and community members, for your support and encouragement during the past year. Together, we have maintained a high level of academic challenge and performance. Congratulations!

Let's celebrate together at the River Dogs' game Friday evening. This is a perfect event to come together, to celebrate the year's successes, and to enjoy a great sporting event. The AMHS Dirty Birds will be playing outside the stadium beginning around 6:30. As the ad says, "See you at The Joe." Friday, May 15th at 7:00.

This school year has been a successful one, and I hope that each student and faculty/staff member will remember the year as a positive and purposeful one. As we come to its close, please let us know if there are any questions or concerns that you may have. We want to continue our efforts to maintain the academic excellence and the sense of community associated with AMHS.

Stephen Colbert Shocks SC schools by Funding Every Single Teacher-Requested Grant

Comedian Stephen Colbert announced Thursday that he would fund every existing grant request South Carolina public school teachers have made on the education crowdfunding website DonorsChoose.org.

Colbert partnered with Share Fair Nation and ScanSource to fund nearly 1,000 projects for more than 800 teachers at over 375 schools, totaling $800,000.

Can You Help as a Thesis Mentor?

We are still searching for thesis mentors. We are looking for experts in Social Media Marketing (the student is particularly interested in the fashion industry's use of SMM) and an expert in Grimm's Fairy Tales (the evolution of them over time). Please contact larissa_bortz@charleston.k12.sc.us with any leads. Thanks!

Athens and the Islands...
AMHS Spring Break 2016

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.

We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.

We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.

The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price - a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me by phone at 746-1300, ex. 26227 or by email at Mary_Altman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
