Celebrate Magnet at the Joe

Please join PIE for a fun filled evening at the RiverDogs game on Friday, May 15th at Joe Riley Stadium. The fun will begin outside the gates where our own AMHS Dirty Birds will be performing. Cassidy Rindge, Student Council President, will be throwing out the first pitch.

Gates open at 6:00 with game time at 7:05. Group tickets can be purchased for $9 by clicking here for the group portal. Use the password AMHS15. Stick around after the game when our Seniors will be at home plate to start the fireworks show.  Hope to see you all at the ball game! (Seniors do not need to purchase advance tickets. They should listen for school announcements on how to sign up for their game tickets.)

Chris Sacha Selected as a 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholar

Magnet's Chris Sacha was recently named a 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Chris is one of 141 high school seniors that will be honored in D.C. this June for their outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community.

Scholars, are selected for their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.

The 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one young man and one young woman from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and from U.S. families living abroad, as well as 15 chosen at-large and 20 in the Arts. Each scholar may name their most influential teacher, and Chris chose Magnet's Sullivan Johnston. Congratulations to both!

Can You Help as a Thesis Mentor?

We are still searching for thesis mentors. We are looking for experts in Social Media Marketing (the student is particularly interested in the fashion industry's use of SMM) and an expert in Grimm's Fairy Tales (the evolution of them over time). Please contact larissa_bortz@charleston.k12.sc.us with any leads. Thanks!

Athens and the Islands...
AMHS Spring Break 2016

Trace the path of Ancient History! Experience the Acropolis, Delphi, the Temple of Poseidon, Santorini, Patmos, Crete, Rhodes, and Ephesus.

We have slightly revised the trip for Spring Break 2016. With consideration for getting the best value for our money without missing too much school, we are offering a 10-day trip to Greece and Turkey.

We offered a trip to Greece a few years ago, and it was a great success, particularly the islands! Please take a look at the itinerary online or send me an email if you would like a hard copy. You can also pick up information in my room or in Mr. McCormick's. If you would like to register for the trip, please go to www.eftours.com, then type in the tour number 1668155KK. The total price is detailed for you on line. You can sign up for the trip with a $95 deposit. When you sign up on line, you can choose to pay the company monthly or pay in full, 90 days before departure.

The earlier you sign up the less the monthly payment! We have also included 2 extra activities in the price - a Greek cooking class and a Greek Evening with food and music.

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can reach me by phone at 746-1300, ex. 26227 or by email at Mary_Altman@charleston.k12.sc.us.
